NBA 2K6

The options menu, as in most sports games, is chock full. Here you can manage the team rosters and change them to match and real life changes made in the NBA. You can edit playbooks, create players, even create whole teams. All the standard gameplay options are here, game time, game difficulty, switch control on pass, that sort of thing. In the NBA rules section you can change the rules of the game to match any changes that the NBA makes (or should make!). You can also edit your controller setup here, but be advised there are only four choices for control setup, and they do not differ much from each other. If you want complete button customizability, look elsewhere.
The features option on the main menu includes a few choices. The first, “The Crib,” is where you can see all the trophies, awards, and rewards you have unlocked thus far in the game. You can also listen to 2k’s version of EA Trax, all the songs in the game can be toggled. There is even a code entry screen for all you cheaters out there.

The extras menu is basically full of useless junk. You can view some playing tips, view the game manual, register your game, run a sound test, and view the credits. Exciting, we know.

The Xbox Live menu of this game is full of the standard online options for a sports game. You can select a quick game to jump right in to any mode, good for just getting play started. You can also join one of four lobbies if you wish, beginner, advanced, street, and custom. The names should tell you all you need to know. You can view your NBA 2k6 player card which is like your Xbox360 gamercard except it only shows your NBA 2k6 stats. If you quit games right before you loose, it will show so be warned. You can join leagues here as well, this is a great feature for those who want to join an online community. The tournaments section is, well, for tournaments. There were none going on any time we checked, but you can also start your own. The online desk option is where you can check the leaderboards, download game content, set your online options (like message speed and default game options), and read and 2k news.
When you play NBA 2k6 you will feel like you are playing a next-gen game, but just barely. The game is probably the best NBA 2k game to date, and there certainly is benefit to owning the Xbox360 version. With the great motion and looks adding to the total package, the game should not disappoint. Combine this with the vast amount of online options and you have a winner here, even if it is an obvious first-generation Xbox360 game.
