Final Verdict: Madden 2007 is a huge leap above last year’s painfully obvious money grab from EA, but then again that’s not saying much. Madden fans should be pleased with the inclusion of the missing features from last year, and some of the new features like the intuitive thumbstick control when you’re on offense just feels right this time around. The little things that are indeed missing, like a fantasy draft and the owner mode really take away from the RPG aspects that made previous versions shine—more so than the somewhat leveling up system Madden 2007 has put into place. The Superstar mode seems really “beta” and the inclusion of better camera angles and allowing for player control during a game would have made it more well-rounded. Madden 2007 is still a solid football game, but it must be said that for a game with so much money spent on it and that has been around for so long, it could be so much more. If there were no other NFL football games in the universe like EA has successfully accomplished with their exclusivity deal, we wouldn’t know it could be better. Unfortunately we do know for a fact that in video games (just like in life) competition makes things better, and in the case of the Madden franchise, it can’t be helped thinking it would be a richer game if it HAD to be. -JL |
