The weapons, maps, player models, and explosions are all about as beautiful as you can get at this stage in gaming. The game takes advantage of the Unreal Engine 3.0, and it looks fantastic although it does have a few glitches I noticed. Three times after a new map section loaded, the map had no textures at all, and it stayed that way for a good five minutes until the textures suddenly appeared. I can tell you that gave me a start, to say the least. The light sourcing and physics also are pretty much dead on, and AGEIA PhysX technology is used to help with the latter. The frame rate also stays pretty constant considering the amount of enemies on screen at once, and it only slows during times of extreme action, with multiple explosions and bullets flying. The sound is also a great addition to the game; although the voices can be a bit low at times (I suggest you turn the voice volume slider to the max setting). The explosions, gunshots, and sound effects in general are all super realistic, and they make the game so much better overall. One thing that I did notice was that the enemies tend to repeat the same tired quips after a few minutes, but this is just a minor detail that you will surely overlook. The game has two single player modes, the story mode and the terrorist hunt mode. Both modes can be played to obtain the Xbox360 achievements, and if you play the story mode on ‘realistic’ difficulty, you will be in for a ridiculous time, trust me. The terrorist hunt mode is basically a kill-as-many-tangos-as-possible in the allotted time game, and these levels are set in small parts of the story mode maps. The place that the game really does do well is in the multiplayer mode. The multiplayer mode has several modes of play ranging from the classic deathmatch to objective-based modes like attack and defends. The non-deathmatch modes, I must say, will likely be more fun on the Xbox360 with the addition of Xbox Live, but that is not to say that the PC gamers will not enjoy them. Players can also customize the look of their online characters using the enemy and friendly models from the story mode. |
