One thing the multiplayer mode in the Xbox360 has that the PC version does not is the persistent point system. This means that the more you play on Xbox Live, the higher your military rank will be. You start out as a private, and as you progress, you will unlock better weapons, kits, and upgrades. This may seem like an unfair advantage at first for higher ranked players, but rest assured, if you are good, nothing will hold you back. The multiplayer mode in the Xbox360 version is one of the best Live experiences you can participate in to date, it might even be worth buying Xbox Live just for this game. Before I go to my closing comment, there is one other thing I must mention here but there is a warning first. This gripe I have pertains to the story at the end of the game, so if you do not want it spoiled, skip this paragraph. At the end of the game, you will be treated to a half-finished story, and a screen that promises “To Be Continued.” I would like to say that this means a Rainbow sequel is already in the works, but it is much more likely that Ubisoft plans to provide pay-to-download maps that finish the single player story. To me, not only is this rude, but it seems unnecessary, as the game could have been wrapped up on the map it ends on now. Rainbow 6 Vegas is certainly an evolutionary step forward in the series, and although the old-school die hard R6 PC fans will likely find their military tactical action elsewhere, the rest of us can enjoy an easy to use, fun, military shooter. The game does suffer from flaws, and there are areas in which it can certainly be improved, but it is still one of the best titles available on the Xbox360 console and one of the best available for Xbox Live as well. I can recommend this title to anyone who is looking for something to play on their console, be they a fan or not. |
