Now I understand why SONY is focusing on PS2 gamers...

Well all know from the beginning, sony is betting on the PS2 owners to cross over to PS3, I wouldn't blame them its about 80-90 million of them, the reason I cut it short is that most of those owner purchase 2 or 3 P2's due to failures. Thats why before the PS3 launched they stated if they put out a console with no games people will still buy it, and you know what they were right on their predictions. Cause really thats how the PS3 basically stands now.

PS2 barely had any competition, GameCube sucked and Xbox arrived late (plus it was MS's first attempt). Sony will never have that kind of marketshare again.

WhYte420: I have to agree. It's what I have been preaching since day 1 when I joined this site. Things change. Being loyal to any one of these corporations is just plain dumb. I remember wanting a Nintendo 64. It got delayed. So I got a PS1. Best decision I could have made at the time. PS1 had the most games, the best games, and I didn't have to wait.

Unlike my Nintendo fanboy friend who did wait for the N64. The funny thing was that he kept comign over to play my PS1 because he liked the games better. But his fanboy pride never let him buy a PS1.

Once the PS2 came out he changed his tune. For a year. then when the Xbox came out, he changed his tune again :p

I guess the point of my story is that he ended up owning a PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox last generation because he finally saw the error in his ways.

So anybody who thinks that the 120+ million PS2 owners will get a PS3 just because it is made by Sony needs to get a grip on reality. I guarantee you only about half that number bought the console once. I know I bought 3 of them. Damn things were so unreliable. To this day the only console I ever had to replace were the Sony PS1 and PS2. Oh and my Atari 2600 broke. But by then I was playing games on the Commodore 64 so it didn't matter.

Sony needs to do what MS did. Discontinue their last gen console completely. Ps3 sales would go through the freaking roof!!

i actually agree with dudeman on that last statement. MS killing off the XBOX really helped the 360.

It did. But launching a year before the Wii and PS3 was the most important thing that they got accomplished.

Urdnot Wrex is my friend but I have a hard time believing that the 360 will outsell the PS3 this generation. Because the PS3 is stronger in Japan and Europe. Plus alot of people are buying the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player.

SDF: I am still going to represent the XDF (Xbox Defense Force). But the good thing about seperating from my wife if there is such a thing is that I am stuck with the PS3 for the time being.

If we do divorce I better get the Samsung 1080P LCP HDTV and 360 pro. She can have everything else :p

However, there is no doubt that when this hardware generation is over, the worldwide sales of the Xbox 360 will REMAIN ahead of the Playstation 3. That is the whole reason why Microsoft made that PUBLIC announcement at the E3 trade show!

Japan is a small market compared to what it was in the 16-bit and 32-bit era. Japan currently represents less than 15% of the worldwide videogame industry.



Japan is also a market where Microsoft has already achieved their sales goals. Xbox 360 has already outsold the original Xbox in Japan. That was Microsoft's entire goal--simply making sure that this generation took the Xbox brand to the next step in Japan. The next Xbox system will sell even better in Japan, because consumers will know from the beginning that games like Final Fantasy 14, Lost Odyssey 2, Blue Dragon 2 will be on the Xbox platform.

Japan is also a market where the Playstation 3 is NOT selling well. It's true tha the PS3 is outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan, but only by a 4:1 ratio. When you multiply 4 by the number 0, you end up with 0! Xbox 360 isn't selling well in Japan, and neither is the PS3!



North America is by far the biggest market for the combination of hardware and software. North America is the market where the Xbox 360 completely DOMINATES the Playstation 3!

Europe is a unique market, because it actually has the "potential" of selling larger number of consoles than North America, but ONLY at prices of $149 or lower. Playstation 3 will NEVER reach the price point of $149 or $129. The Xbox 360 Arcade system will eventually reach those price points in Europe.

It's not just Japan MS is losing in. It is also Europe and Australia. Slipping in N.America each month also.

Microsoft recently lowered the price of the Xbox 360 in Europe, and the sales of the Xbox 360 actually DOUBLED to very impressive numbers. Ever since Microsoft lowered the price, the Xbox 360 has continuously outsold the Playstation 3 in Europe.



The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of videogame systems in North America and Europe (the two BIGGEST markets) are sold at price points of $149 and $129. The Xbox 360 Arcade system will definitely reach that price point.

Playstation 3 has NO CHANCE of reaching those price points of $149 or $129!

That is why it is 100% safe to say that the Xbox 360 will REMAIN significantly ahead of the Playstation 3 in terms of worldwide sales.

That is why Microsoft PUBLICLY made the announcement saying that the Xbox 360 will remain ahead of the Playstation 3 in terms of worldwide sales.

The good thing about that announcement is the fact that it puts an end to fanboys fighting each other. Now that we know the Playstation 3 will remain in 3rd place in terms of worldwide sales this generation, we can concentrate on games instead of fighting each other.

in terms of worldwide sales the 360 is only ahead by 4 million. Activision predicts a 1-2 million gain by ps3 this year so beginning of 2009 you are looking at a 1-2 million lead going into 2009. By end of 2009 it is game over for MS. sorry krogan.

dudeman: Where are you getting your sales figures from??? It's a 5.5 million lead. Sony announced it had shipped 14.4 million worldwide. Microsoft has passed 20 million. They announced they were at 19.5 million. So it's at a least 5 million difference.

i once wanted an Ultra 64, Dolphin, and Revolution :p
