Xbox360 HD-DVD Less Than $240 >
2006/05/16 7:56:17: Posted by DM
According to a report on GI, the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox360 is going to cost less than 140GBP, which translates to somwhere around 240USD. This does sound a bit high, hopefully they will drop it to $199.99 in the US at least.

Hmmm .. tacky HD-DVD add-on for movies that dont exist ... or .. Nintendo Wii!!!

I would get the Wii and wait until the dust from the next-gen dvd format war settles.

Unless it hits 99.99 I'm not interested.

If you ever see me with one of these i'm trying to impress somebody :p

Hmmm, let me see, am I going to buy an HD add on for 250.00 to put my grand Xbox 360 total to 650.00 or do I buy a PS3 for 600.00 with HDMI? That's ok M$, you can have your crappy add on.

Walkin: Wait for a clear winner in the format war and buy a standalone player, perhaps it cost you 500$ :D

2 things:

1) I think this thing will be 200 bucks US. I've got disposable income, so I'll probably pick one up next spring just to try out HD-DVD - then get a stand alone player when there is enough content to justify the purchase.

2)OptX - the problem with Sony's pricing isn't the price for what you get - the problem is how much is a gamer willing to spend at one time just to get in on the ground floor - 399 for 360, 599 for PS3 (if wireless is in your definition of next-gen) or 399 and 499 for wired. No one argues that what the PS3 comes with is worth 600 bucks, of course it is (they are selling them at a 40 percent loss after all). My problem is force-feeding the average gamer a media format they don't want and an expensive video output they either don't need or can't use.

What bothers me is all this 'external' bussines.

If this goes on ill have to rent an extra room just for my xbox360.

Let me think for a sec....... I could buy an addon for a xbox 360 that "only" plays hd movies for $250 or i can buy a ps3 600$ version that not only plays Hd movies, but also holds 50 gb available for game data

And all the while, the 360 can only hold up to 9 gb for game data....... Not much of a debate there
Written by The Guru (9) on 2006/05/16

Yeah, because we all know you need 50 gb for a game.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/16

ps....3 the fact that all 360 games including oblivion which holds over 200 hours worth of gameplay fits onto a single 360 disc completely destroys your argument. Also this is rumor who says it'll cost that much?

OptX for you people thinking $600 is your final ps3 price could you be anymore in denial?

So your telling me tax magically wont apply? You wont want any games, extra controller or accessories? Lets assume your ps3 controller and other accessories cost EXACTLY $20 which they wont.. now lets assume tax is exactly $15 which it probably wont be. Now lets say games run for exactly $60, which they wont tax will come in and lets say you ONLY want 2 games... (you'll probably want more) You are already looking at $774 ASSUMING your extra controller and other accessories only cost a measly $20.... The actual ps3 price is well over $800 for people that want to enjoy themselves some games.

Only people paying $599 plus tax are the people that intend to buy a ps3 then sell it on ebay.

I realze that Optaviusx, but i am not think of a game that will come out within months after the Ps3's release, i am talking about games 5 years from now, the one's that really matter!!!!!!! so u can STFU or just chill lol
Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/16

So your pricing logic is severely flawed in many regards the 360 is still quite a bit cheaper than the ps3. Take myself for example.. the starting price for my 360 premium was $399 I bought all the accessories, extra controller, rechargable battery pack, play and charge kit you name it, 4 games, and my customary extend on warranty (ALWAYS do that for a console you get at launch) My total was $850... I think its safe to assume for other hardcore ps3 people that spend like I do on a console they are easily looking at $1000 on a ps3. No way around it and ps3 people will spend serious money for their games because the ps3 games are "better" isn't that right?

So your saying no game that comes out within 2 or 3 years of the ps3's release are worth it? lol I hope that isn't the case or sony will have already lost next gen :P MGS4, dmc4, killzone will likely see a release no later than 2008 anyway so those are games people will buy. Don't forget Gran Turimso, Lair Heavenly Sword, Killzone. You know people will be buying anything they can get their hands on till the best arrives :)

Kinda sad my extend on warranty was a waste of time though since my 360 has never screwed up on me :/

i am not sure how the developers are gonna cram 50 gb of data into games 6 years from now but its a he11 of alot better than 9 gb. Unless M$ figures out a he11 of a way to Decompress files, i see a very big gap in there future.

I dont have an xbox 360, maybe that is my reason of thing this way. If i did i probably be playing Oblivion right now.

my reason of thinking this way !! not thing this way
Written by nixon (203) on 2006/05/16

who cares hd dvd is an option not blue ray thats the different... that one reason why microsoft is charging more cause they ain't forcing you... with sony its already sort of forcing... so because they are forcing the price has to be less
Written by Toxie (8) on 2006/05/16

if you really think a developer is going to spend both the time and money to make a 50 gb game...then you better also know that they will pass the expense to you with the cost of a 250$ game.
Written by Ps.....3 on 2006/05/16

Yea thats true if they were to make a game with 50gb right now, but look at the ps2, Most of the first games released on launch used Cd's. Now, 6 years later they are using dvd's in all games almost. What i was saying is that the games that ps3 releases 5 to 6 years from now are gonna need 50gb of data, just like the ps2 need all the space a dvd has to offer right now
Written by Toxie (8) on 2006/05/16

it doesn't matter when they make it...the bigger the game the more money it takes to make it period why do you think xbox 360 games are now 60 instead of 50$us? because it costs more to make...and how much do you think a 50gb game will cost to make? at least 5 times what 10gb game costs? at that logic it will cost 300$Us to make a 50 gb game...have fun selling the other kidney to buy the game, you'll have sold your first one to buy the system.
Written by Toxie (8) on 2006/05/16

"just like the ps2 need all the space a dvd has to offer right now" if xbox 360 doesn't need "all the space a dvd has to offer right now" then ps2 should not need it...really which games on the ps2 use the full 9 gb?
Written by ps.......3 (17) on 2006/05/16

What i meant was the amount of content they put on there disk has increased, i didnt mean that they used the full 9 gb for ps2 games, but that they went from regular 700mb disk to dvds because of content demands
Written by Jon (88) on 2006/05/17

ps.....3, I don't see anything but ps3 exclusive games using more than 9gb this generation. Ps2 games moved to dvds because xbox and pc used them. I don't see a rash of blu-ray PC games coming out anytime soon. This gen all sony's compitetion(360, Wii, PC) are using dvd. I don't see third party devs. going "Dude, lets add 40gigs of content to the ps3 version."

Sorry.

ok well, u dont understand what i am trying to say then.

But i dont care any more, we will see how it all turns out 4-6 years from now.
