Splitfish Take On PS3's Force Feedback Controller >
2007/02/02 19:50:42: Posted by vividbreeze
Splitfish has more information on their SensorFX and EdgeFX for the PlayStation 3 and other next generation gaming systems. Click read more for full press release.

PRESS RELEASE

Edmonton - Feb 02, 2007 SplitFish(tm) GameWare Inc., a leader in video game hardware innovation, today responded to the growing interest and speculation stemming from their January 30 press release regarding their SensorFX force feedback system that they have developed for the PlayStation 3 and other next-generation video game consoles.
According to SplitFish president, Ken Tetterington, “SplitFish is devoted to bringing our controller technologies such as the SensorFX and EdgeFX to the PlayStation 3 and other next generation gaming systems so that consumers can have the most exciting, immersive gaming experience possible. We have met recently and continue discussions with Sony Computer Entertainment of America specifically related to SplitFish’s up coming PS3 gaming technology portfolio. However, SCEA have not, as they have stated, yet seen our very recent force feedback technology.”

“We have a very amiable relationship with Sony,” continued Tetterington, “Our goal is to work in cooperation with Sony to provide a win-win situation for PlayStation 3 owners.”
The new SplitFish dynamic force feedback system was designed to insure compliant operation with the new tilt, motion and directional sensor technologies currently found in the next generation consoles. While the SplitFish EdgeFX uses a mechanical feedback system, this new technology produces a whole new aspect of force and tactile feedback.

This low power consumption force feedback technology uses no moving parts to produce meaningful sensory feedback. A broad range of intensity and sensation compliment the ability to derive feedback sensations from isolated areas on the controller, one side or the other, movement from front to back or all areas at the same time. As an example, a gamer playing a racing game can feel variations in pulse, strength and location allowing them to feel intensity differences between a smooth guardrail swipe and a full frontal slam into a wall.

The patent pending SensorFX has two modes, one for games that have force feedback support already built in and the other mode that relies on motion tilt sensing and button use and other actions to trigger the SensorFX tactile feedback. SplitFish plans to work with video game publishers and next-generation hardware manufacturers in an effort to establish standard support for this full directional force feedback technology.

About SplitFish:

SplitFish is a developer of original patented video game hardware technologies that include the EyeFX (tm) 3D Adapter, EdgeFX Controller, MotionFX Tilt- sensing Adapter, GlideFX Trackball Controller, and the DualFX Laser Gun. Sony made the wrong decision when they decided to make a controller without the ability to rumble or vibrate. Nevertheless, I think Sony needs to stick to what their original goals were when they decided to support tilt-sensing controllers rather than vibration. Sony cannot just be changing their minds like that, or else it will REALLY upset a lot of consumers who bought those $50 controllers. Consumers will end up saying, "Hey, I wasted $50 on this controller when the Playstation 3 was released, and it has only been a few months since I purchased it, and it is has already lost its value."

Those are the sorts of things that really upset consumers. I think that this Spitfish company needs to keep their mouth shut and quit bugging Sony when it comes to controllers. Sony needs to concentrate on making decent games for the Playstation 3, because that is what they are really having a hard time doing.

chill Sky Unbiased put up a fair point there. rumble is missed ask anyone except you would they have rumble back instead of the stupid motion controller and most would say yes.

and this is a dig at you then you must be really bad at games if the rumble disrupts your aim or is that just a stupid excuse from a clear (should i say it) Fanboy.

hahahah nice
Written by sicbud on 2007/02/03

What is the big deal with rubmle? It's not all that great. I certainly don't miss it on my ps3. But, to each his own, I guess.

I don't miss it either, but hey if we had rumble so be it.

a response from Unbiased's opposite mr new york and 2 other people are hardly something to feel smug about Sky. @ MR NY i actually prefare the Wii over the 360 so would you still call me a fanboy or do you not see it as competition to sony and MS? oh yeah Mr NY you should download Wiipie so you can use the Wiimote on the Pc, its way better than the Ps3's imitation.

a lot of people here need to learn to not just read, but understand what they read. reading comprehension is low on this site and people start bashing others right away without understanding what they're saying. read UTP's post again and read it carefully.

SplitFish with it's PRs are trying to force Sony's hand in including rumble.

Response to Nemesis IX:

Thanks for the nice comment you gave to me, friend. It's nice when guys like you and MAKAVELLI and daveydz3 stick up for the things I write about.

I have noticed that more and more people have been mentioning my name on here, before I even post anything!

It is nice when people take the time to put in a good word for other people. I think you do a nice job of writing on here, too.
Written by daveydz3 on 2007/02/03

UTP, thank you, but it wasn't even that. a lot of people on this site read something and ignore all the relevant words and bash on the "fanboyism"

i don't have a problem with fanboys/girls as long as they are polite and courteous and can take criticisms that every system has without going nuclear.

I ain't going to sit up here and lie, I miss the rumble in ps2 controller.

the ps3 controller feel like it's missing something and that's what is missing.
Written by Nemesis IX on 2007/02/04

"BEST EU Launch ever" lol i don't think so, if you where from Europe you'd know not many people are to bothered with it(except maby England) and also general owners are satisfied with there Wii and 360 also the Wii has become the fastest selling console in Europe ever so i really doubt the ps3 will out sell either of them especially with HMV doing such a ridiculous offer and there the EU flagship shop.

oh yeah UTP, cheers. i like to read your comments because you actually know something about the console in question and can stand by it if questioned as where most people(essentially ps3 fans) don't know anything about there prefared console and just talk blind faith without knowing anything about it.

If you ever played a lot of PC games (like me). You really won't miss the rumble feature (as keyboards and mice don't rumble).
Written by Eamo on 2007/02/04

Thats a true point, but a console just doesnt seem to feel right without rumble nowadays. I prefer GTA games on consoles for this reason, although mouselook is sweet
Written by daveydz3 on 2007/02/04

@ silverwolf

but what if they did? heh. its all good. a chief example of how rumble can be used as added gameplay was in Zelda: OoT. remember if you had the rumble pak if you walked over ground with a hidden hole it would rumble sort of like a metal detector. that was cool.

the best rumble use is when you don't really notice, that it just belongs.

i remember a game i played with horrible use of rumble and for every little movement of the character a jolting rumble would ensue.

Response to Mr. New York:

The European launch of the Playstation 3 obviously be better than the Japanese one, but that doesn't exactly say anything particularly impressive. In fact, that is literally a default issue because the Japanese PS3 launched with only six games--two of which were Mahjong games, and one of which was that terribly bad Gundam game!

The PS3 was able to launch with more games in North America, particular because of the EA Sports and 2K Sports games. But you need to realize that those games are not important at all to Japanese or European gamers. Those sports franchises do the overwhelming majority of their business in North America, particularly the United States.

In Europe, the sport that is most important--BY FAR--is Football...But you need to realize that Football in Europe is the game that is called Soccer in the United States. With that in mind it is important to realize that the Xbox 360 has TWO soccer games currently available in Europe, while the Playstation 3 will not have any Soccer games at all. This is very similar to the way the Xbox 360 has a WWE wresting game available, but the Playstation 3 does not.

You are correct that the PS3 is launching with quite a few games in Europe, but you need to look at the reason why. The reason why this is happening is not because Sony has done a good job of managing things; it is because Sony has done a very poor job of managing things. Sony has delayed their Playstation 3 project for over a year in Europe!!!

The Playstation 3 is being released 1.5 YEARS after the Xbox 360 in Europe, and the games being offered ARE NOT AS GOOD!!!

If you think I am being biased, just go look at the comparison Gamespot made where they prove that every game released on both systems is better on the Xbox 360.

On top of that, people are NOT going to be motivated to buy the EA Sports and 2K Sports games that are going to be available for the PS3 in Europe when it launches. Those games have been available for the Xbox 360 for such a long time, and the reviews show that the Xbox 360 versions are superior.

We also know that games like Gundam, Genji, Untold Legends, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Full Auto 2 have received very low review scores from virtually all websites, because they are very disappointing games.

We also know that the Playstation 3 will received some good games in Europe, but the overwhelming majority of them are already on the Xbox 360, and the Xbox 360 versions are better! For example, the European Playstation 3 will receive Call of Duty 3, Marvel Ultimate Allicance, F.E.A.R., Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Need for Speed Carbon, and Tony Hawk's Project 8.

However, each of those games is better on the Xbox 360! For example, the Playstation 3 version of Call of Duty 3 has a framerate that is tremendously choppy. Another example would be the fact that the Playstation 3 version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 does not include Online play, while the Xbox 360 version does.

Speaking of online play, let's look at two other games that will be released for the Playstation 3 in Europe: Virtua Tennis 3 and VF5. Virtua Tennis 3 will be released for both systems, but the Xbox 360 version will have Online play, while the Playstation 3 version of Virtua Tennis 3 will not.

The same can be said for Virtua Fighter 5; the Playstation 3 version of it that launches with the Playstation 3 will NOT have online play. We know that the Xbox 360 version will launch about three months after the PS3 version, and it will be the same thing as with Virtua Tennis 3; there will be Online Play in the Xbox 360 version, while the PS3 version does not include Online play.

Friend, I have done my best to debate you and point out facts. I have tried to point out professional references such as Gamespot and IGN. But you seem to think I am "biased" no matter what. If you want to make fun of my screen-name and try to contradict it in an immature way, then that is up to you.

But I have taken quite a bit of time to mention nearly every game in the Playstation 3's European launch lineup of games. The Playstation 3 European launch lineup isn't bad at all, but the MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER is that the software being offered by the Playstation 3 is NOT AS GOOD AS THE COMPETITION!!!

The Xbox 360 software lineup is MUCH BETTER than the Playstation 3 software lineup in Europe, and everywhere else in the world!

Every third-party game available for the European Playstation 3 is also available on the Xbox 360! Many of those games have been available for a long time, and are now in the Xbox 360 Platinum Hits lineup of games, for only $29.99, compared to $59.99 for the Playstation 3. People in Europe are intelligent, and they will be aware of these facts. European people will not want to pay extra money for Playstation 3 versions of games, especially when the Xbox 360 versions offer better graphics and much better online play.
Written by Nemesis IX on 2007/02/04

i forgot about Football/Soccor that will be a big sway factor, football is like a religion here in Europe its huge, 2 of my friends bought the 360 because of that and i'm sure there where tens of thousand more who bough the 360 because of its exclusive football/soccor rights. Hmmn don't think you could make a virbating keyboard that could get annoying but with a mouse that could work i'd like to see something like that with crysis, most likely though it won't become a mainstream thing, could do though i'm sure there where plenty of people who hated the n64 with the rumble pack but thats a gaming standard now, well almost(ps3).

@UTP This is only some of the Greatness with the lauch of the Euro. Much more to come 07 and beyond. Also on that list there are a couple of AAA titles,That's how sony does it.As for them third party games your talking about means nothing dude.First and second party is going to win this generation,Which is really good for all gamers.Yes sony is starting off slow but time will only tell.Halo3 and GEOW is not going to change the outcome sorry.P.S. nice post though UTP.

1. PS3

With all the negative press lately, it's hard to imagine Sony as the winner here. But when you actually look at how many probable stellar exclusive games it has lined up for the year to come, we have to put the PS3 in the number one slot. So many of these games are surefire blockbusters such as MGS4, Killzone 2, SOCOM 4, Gran Turisimo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet & Clank...and the list goes on.

The other driving factor about Sony is that its developers are taking chances with new games on the PS3. Look at the amount of new franchises coming to the PS3, and that's a boon for the consumer.

Also UTP Blu-Ray is doing rather great at this point

wouldn't you agree?
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/04

MR. New York, you're wasting your time. UTP cannot believe anything other that what the Microsoft Mission Statement says. W/ that being said, all I know is that March is huge for Sony. There are quite a few solid games coming out. The only title I really look forward to from MS this year is Halo 3. There really isn't a lot that stands out for me. Good point about Blu-Ray. it is dominating HD DVD. It won't be long before Universal drops exclusivity and goes to Blu Ray. It's funny going to the AVS forums and reading the dissenting HD DVD adopters complain about a lack of titles and switching to blu-ray.

360 has been out for over a year; they missed their end of 2006 sold numbers (changed it to 'shipped'), are non-existent in Japan, PS2 has outsold it every month its been out, and they cut back on fiscal 2006 numbers by 2 million units (which they will most likely miss as well). Any else to add prof?
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/04

In reference to motion feedback, I hope that Sony will take this into consideration. Adopt this technology, release a firmware update, whammo, vibration. It'd be smart of them to do so, but we'll see if they overcome their own ego.
Written by mr new york on 2007/02/04

@VaeVictus I agree with you.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/02/04

Response to Smarty Pantz:

Microsoft made it clear that they not only achieved their sales goals of 10 million systems by the end of 2006, but they exceeded the sales goals they originally announced by achieving the number of 10.4 million.

Also, it is important to remember that Sony is ALSO "nonexistent" in Japan. Piles of unsold Playstation 3 systems are sitting on storeshelves collecting dust in Japan just as bad as it is in North America. Take a look at this website for proof of that: kotaku.com/gaming/top/japanese-stores-slashing-20gb-prices-230297.php

Sony likes to point out that the PS2, which sells for $270 less than the Xbox 360, has outsold the Xbox 360, but it is almost as if they mindless don't realize that the PS2 has also SEVERELY outsold the PS3...because the Xbox 360 was the top-selling next-generation game system of 2006 during the holiday season.

Sony likes to say, "The PS3 has reached 1 million units shiped faster than either the PS1 or the PS2." However, it is worth noting two very importand things. First, the PS1 and PS2 actually sold when they reached stores, whereas the PS3 isn't selling at all once they units reach stores. Second, and even more important, the Xbox 360 has sold faster than either the PS1, PS2, or PS3!
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/04

Hmmm, let's see, the PS3 non existent in Japan. If that is the case, what is the 360? A deadbeat dad? Despite being as cheap as the Wii, packaged w/ Blue Dragon it still can't sell worth a crap. Your spinning so fast, you cannot see the hypocrisy of your rediculousness. Despite the 360's comparable price in Japan to the Wii, it still can't outsell the PS3. Give it up. Things are beginning to look up for the PS3, despite the numerous PR fiascos.
Written by mr new york on 2007/02/04

@UTP not selling as bad as 360 lol.Nothing can save 360 in Japan that's a fact. Also Fact is that PS3 has atleast five games out of ten on the list that japanese

ppl want'{should I say system sellers]Also like I said

a few post back BLU-ray is doing very great out selling

HD-dvd 3:1 lol that's really funny since all the trolls was say it's a failure lol.

"In Japan, about 96% of the hardware being sold for high-definition format are coming from the Blu-ray family. It's a format with over 100 different CE manufacturers. Obviously we have the launch coming up in Europe for PS3. So we are feeling very good about that.”

Sony points out that the top five films of last year - as well as the top 11 of 15 - were all released exclusively on Blu-ray.

quote from gametap.com only a matter of time before sony dominate sorry UTP.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/02/04

Response to Mr. New York about HD-DVD vs Blu-ray:

As far as Blu-ray disc sales are concerned, you have no doubt been reading some of the headlines that talk about how Blu-ray sales have been “closing the gap with HD-DVD,” since the release of the Playstation 3. Obviously, this is because the number of people who own machines capable of playing a Blu-ray disc increased exponentially when the Playstation 3 was released. In fact, one headline that talked about this said that the Blu-ray sales were “humbling” before the Playstation 3 was released.

The fact of the matter is that when the headlines say that when the Playstation 3 launched Sony sold the overwhelming majority of their systems within that one-month period of time. The sales of the Playstation 3 have been horrible worldwide since then. Obviously, what happened is that when the PS3 launched there were a certain number of people who automatically bought the system, simply because they would buy the system even if it didn’t have ANY games…JUST LIKE SONY EXECUTIVES SAID!!!

It is unfortunate that there really are about one-million people who are that stupid, with that much money to waste. But, thankfully, now that those people have bought the system, there are very few people who remain like that…The remaining people in the world value high-quality games, and they will not just blindly purchase a game system that has what TIME magazine calls “lame games.” That is why the Playstation 3 is now piling up and collecting dust on the store shelves in both North America and Japan.

You should know that Blu-ray disc sales have only outsold HD-DVD disc sales for one week--EVER--and that was a week in early January. The sales analysts are correct when they say that this is because the Playstation 3 was given as a Christmas gift during that period, and then people who received it as a gift immediately wanted to purchase a Blu-ray disc to see what it would be like. After that week in early January, the HD-DVD once again took the lead in terms of sales. The most recent week had the HD-DVD outselling Blu-ray by a ratio where 9.2 Blu-ray discs were sold for every 10 HD-DVD discs. So, the bottom line says that the “gap” still exists, and HD-DVD is still number one.

Also, it kind of hurts me to say this, but the fact of the matter is that one of the main reasons why the VHS format easily defeated Sony’s Betamax format is because the adult pornographic film industry so heavily supported VHS, but only supported Betamax a little bit. This is nearly identical to what is happening with HD-DVD vs Blu-ray. The fact of the matter is that ALL of the adult film industry supports the HD-DVD format, while the Blu-ray format still does not have any adult film movies at all. In fact, only one adult film movie has even been announced for Blu-ray. If someone is interested in high-definition adult films (and there are a LOT of people!), then the HD-DVD format offers FAR more high-definition adult films.

We also need to remember that HD-DVD is the format that was Officially selected by the DVD forum as the replacement for the standard DVD disc. That decision was made for a reason: The HD-DVD format offers better disc quality. HD-DVD discs CURRENTLY offer Hybrid technology that combines both standard DVD movies and HD-DVD movies on the same disc. This is something that we have not seen from Blu-ray, nor are there any plans to use that kind of technology anytime soon. This puts Blu-ray and its outdated MPEG-2 video compression technology at a major disadvantage compared to HD-DVD and the brand-new VC-1 video compression technology that offers much better video performance quality.

Blu-ray discs are often reviewed with lower scores than standard DVD movies, because the reviewers point out that single-layer Blu-ray discs actually have fewer Special Features due to the fact that Blu-ray discs use the very inefficient MPEG-2 compression technology on a single-layer disc. High-definition video takes up a lot more space than standard-definition does. As a result, standard DVD discs and HD-DVD discs have much more space for Special Features than Blu-ray discs do in most situations, because almost all Blu-ray discs are single-layer with the 15 year old MPEG-2 compression technology that is outdated. Sony will never use VC-1, because the arrogant Sony organization doesn’t want to pay Microsoft or Intel the royalties to use the VC-1 technology that those American companies invented. I am not being “biased” when I say that, but it is a fact; the statistics speak for themselves.

The really disappointing thing about Blu-ray is that almost all of the discs use MPEG-2 compression technology; the same compression technology used on standard DVD discs. This means that when you take a high-quality DVD action movie or sci-fi movie that is also on Blu-ray, and you compare the two when the standard DVD is being used on an Upconverting DVD player or an Upconverting HDTV set, then the two discs end up looking nearly identical! This certainly is not worth spending all that money on a Blu-ray player! That is why sales of dedicated Blu-ray players have been so horrible!

Do you realize that the sales figures show that the majority of PS3 owners do NOT buy Blu-ray movies. This is the reason why movie companies have already cancelled their exclusive contracts with Blu-ray and instead decided to release movies for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. The fact that Universal makes movies only for HD-DVD is a HUGE thing that is a MAJOR benefit for HD-DVD.

Friend, I think that some of the people on this website are correct; there are just some people out there who will blindly follow certain beliefs, no matter what. Sony executives themselves even said that there were about 1 million people who would blindly purchase the PS3, even if it didn’t have ANY games. That is just plain STUPID!!! Sadly, it sounds like you are one of those people, because you refuse to acknowledge certain facts related to how Sony’s competition has outperformed them in so many ways.

And by the way, the Japanese market for movies is NOTHING compared to the North American one. In fact, the Japanese market values pornography in a public way moreso than North America where it is still considered something "private." That will be an even bigger benefit for the HD-DVD format there. HD-DVD is number one in North America, just look at the disc sales for proof. It will stay this way for quite a while, which hurts Sony's Playstation 3 a LOT!!! The only way the PS3 benefits from Blu-ray in that aspect is if Blu-ray were to "win" the format war. A "draw" or a "loss," or even an "eventual win down the road," does not help Sony at all; it hurts them now!

Reply to Mr. New York about the Playstation 3 "Sequalitas":

Ummmm, Mr. New York, in case you didn't notice, you COMPLETELY contradicted yourself! It is AN ABSOLUTE JOKE that you would say that developers are taking risks on the Playstation 3 in ways that allow them to create "new franchises" for the Playstation 3! That is simply a JOKE!!!

When games like Genji and Untold Legends are considered the "new games" you are referring to, then they can KEEP THEM, because they SUCK! Just look at the reviews on all the websites!

The Playstation 3 is a Computer Entertainment System (not a videogame system) that is very difficult to make games for; thus, it is very expensive to make games for. Consequently, we will see very few "new games" on the Playstation 3, especially from third-party developers.

On the Xbox 360, the development environment is very friend, which means games take less time to develop. Consequently, the games cost less money to make, which allows the developers to take more risks financially when it comes to creating "new game franchises." Just look at games like Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Gears of War, Crackdown, Bioshock, and Mass Effect for some of the proof of this.

There is NO DOUBT ABOUT THIS: The Xbox 360 is THE SYSTEM where "new games" are being released, not the Playstation 3. Websites, magazines, and game developers have said for a LOOOOONG time that the Playstation 3 suffers from "sequelitas," because it only gets age-old sequels like Ridge Racer 7, and Tekken 6.

By the way, look at the list of games you mentioned when you said that the Playstation 3 has "new games." EVERY SINGLE GAME you mentioned is a sequel!!!

Friend, you need to turn the lights on in your life so that you can see things in the real world more clearly when it comes to how disappointing the Playstation 3 is!!!

Also, the games you mentioned are not going to be released for a VERY LOOOONG time for many of them, and some of the ones you mentioned are also going to be on the Xbox 360. For example, Final Fantasy XIII will not be released until 2008 in Japan, and we may not see it until 2009 in North America and/or Europe. And with MGS4, we won't see that one on PS3 until late 2007, and the fact of the matter is that we will likely see an improved version on the Xbox 360, just like all the rumors are saying--in the same way they said it about Assassins Creed, Fight Night Round 3, Unreal 3, and many others.

Also, when you consider that the Playstation 3 is selling so very poorly in Japan, there is an EXCELLENT chance that we will see Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360, regardless of what Square Enix has said to the media. Just remember that Sega said VF5 would only be for Playstation 3, but the fact that the Xbox 360 is so much more successful than the Playstation 3 in terms of sales figures that they had no choice but to release VF5 for the Xbox 360, as well.

@UTP so your calling me stupid because I brought a ps3?

dont be so angry mr new york , just enjoy your ps3. there will be good games for it , all the ps3 haters still waiting for mgs4 to the xbox360!! guess what if is not coming?

Mgs2 was responsible to selling millions of consoles , they were people buying just to play it.

So please , if you have the oportunity to buy the two consoles (x360 ps3) do it , the stupid fanboyism will soon end after that.

Mr: unbisead , get a grip man , you and your xbox360 rants make me laught.....and wondering in how much microsoft pays you to buy the console.

All your writing style seems like a sales man , desesperate to sell his stuff.....

you are an anoying guy , proffessor.

I don't all this fussing about HD-DVD vs Blu-ray when this is clearly about the rumble features with sixaxis controls as well.

but to those who said that blu-ray is dominating I beg to differ.look at the news section [link removed]
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/05

UTP has called PS3 owners stupid, that's flaming. Ban him.

UTP, Kojima has stated that MGS4 is for the PS3. If it were ever, by some small chance, to make it to the 360, it certainly wouldn't be "better." Wanna know what is stupid, calling your self unbiased when you are nothing close to being so.

Fact is, your opinions are not fact, and you are exposing yourself w/ each copy and paste session you go on as a MS lunatic. Sorry to say, the list of games coming for the PS3 > the 360. The 360 has one trump card in Halo 3, other than that nothing stands out.

@ jlemdon, I can post 10 links to the one that was removed that will show you that blu-ray is winning out. The reason this discussion takes place, is b/c UTP makes it a point to post negative comments about Sony in every forum that contains news about Sony. He copies and pastes what he reads on MSfanboy.net about why the PS3 is terrible and how great the 360 is. He just can't let the owners (of whom he refers to as being stupid) of PS3's read the news and discuss the topic at hand amongst themselves. Instead, he has to insult them, copy and paste his kool aide and try to sell us all on MS. I don't see anyone trying to do this for any other console. It's sad really.
Written by steve_o_3000 on 2007/02/05

you fanboys should all be shot.
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/05

I'm not a fanboy of any one console, I'm just tired of UTP. He has yet to be reigned in. If he's such a fan of the 360, he should only post in the 360 forums. He's wasting the owners of this site's bandwith by posting the same insulting garbage over and over again. He doesn't get it that we know what he's going to say. We've read it a million times and it gets old. He doesn't even own a PS3, he should really stay out.

aaaaaaahhhhhhhh, idon't want to read all that, i give up then except for one thing VaeVictus's comments about the motion feedback mr new york agreed with it as where he called me a fanboy for saying basically the same.

I think some ppl on here is lying about they could care less for the rumble feature. I bet they will be the 1st ones to purchase the controller once it comes out also.
Written by Nemesis IX on 2007/02/05

will you ever shut up mr new york all you say is fanboy fanboy fanboy fanboy. i love the Wii, like the 360 and Ps3 i just don't like the bad decisions sony have recently made, so that makes me a fanboy then? and if anyone should be banned it you mr new york, i comment on all new info on consoles good or bad as where you only ever comment on ps3 news which proves in that your a little ps3 fanboy."LOL getrid of him."

i'm not replying to anything else on this section its just starting to get stupid, so say what you want.
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/05

I'll agree jlemdon, I wish the PS3 did have rumble, and I really do hope Sony will jump on this offer. Does not having rumble make playing the PS3 unbearable? Not at all. It's very very fun to play, and adding rumble would only make games like RFoM that much better if it had that feature.
Written by jlemdon on 2007/02/05

I wish it did also because I play action and fighting games mostly. I think the rumble feature has a big effect to those games.

Victus I still play my PS3 but maybe I'm used to the rumble feature.
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/05

Who knows what it would have cost Sony to settle w/ Immersion, but the cost of the PS3 to them probably was the reason rumble was left out in the 1st place. If this company isn't asking too much, I can't see why Sony wouldn't jump on this. This is an opportunity to right a wrong.

Response and Explanation to EVERYONE:

I would like to make something clear: Sony management executives referred to people with such a blind level of faith that they literally referred to a group of people who would purchase the Playstation 3, "even if it didn't have any games at all."

In my opinion--and the opinions of many others--that would literally be a “stupid” thing to do. Buying a game system without games is just plain stupid, according to the definition of the word “stupid.” I am not "cursing" when I say that; I am just pointing out an action that I believe crosses the line from "ignorance" to "stupidity."

Let me explain:

When an animal decides to run across the road to get to the other side, but gets hit by a car, it isn't classified as an act of "stupidity;" it is classified as an act of "ignorance," because no lesson was ever learned. In other words, the animal never had anybody tell it not to cross the road, so how was it supposed to know. That is a display of innocent "ignorance."

But Stupidity is very different. If a grown man were to see a sign that says, "Don't Walk," but he decided to take a chance and cross the street anyways, even when it was going to be a close call, then that would be a display of "Stupidity." A grown man would have learned lessons in life about the importance of the "Don't Walk" sign, and that grown man would have done a "Stupid" thing when he willingly decided to ignore the lessons learned in life.

In that same way, gamers have been told for decades that the most important part of a videogame machine is the software. For decades videogame magazines, newsletters, TV shows, and websites have made it clear that software is the most important part of a videogame system. Software is BY FAR the most important reason why people by a videogame system.

If a little kid who just happened to have $650 to buy a PS3 would have bought one, without games--as Sony said, then that would be an innocent display of "ignorance."

However, there were not one-million innocent children who met that requirement. This meant that there were a lot of people--but 3.5 times smaller than Sony was hoping--who purchased the Playstation 3, without games--as Sony said. This is a display of "Stupidity," because the people making those purchases were adults with blind "fanboy" loyalty that didn't address the importance of software in many instances...just like Sony said. That is a very unfortunate thing...a very unfortunate thing indeed.

Also, I would like to point out to Mr. New York that when you are writing about how you believe the Playstation 3 has “new game franchises,” and then you list a handful of games, but EVERY single game is a sequel, then that can be considered an act of “Stupidity,” not “Ignorance.” That is not a “Curse,” it is just a fact that is meant to update your awareness that this is one of the many mistakes you often make.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/02/05

If you want to list some of the "new games" that are available for the Playstation 3, I suggest that you stay away from games like Untold Legends and Genji, because those games have received very poor reviews. And I hate to burst your bubble, but Resistance: FOM is not considered anything special. On many reliable websites, such as Gamespot, RFOM on PS3 actually has received lower review scores than Xbox 360 launch games such as Perfect Dark Zero, Call of Duty 2, or Kameo: Elements of Power.

If you enjoy multi-player online, then you would almost certainly enjoy Perfect Dark Zero because it offers 32 player online action. It was originally meant to have 50 player online action, but it was reduced to 32 because the programmers needed to finish the game by launch, and they only had access to Pre-Alpha development kits that only allowed them to use one-sixth of the Xbox 360 General Purpose CPU power, whereas RFOM had access to 100% of the available General Purpose CPU power of the Playstation 3, because it was programmed on the Final Version of the PS3 development kit for the last six months of its development cycle due to the fact that the Playstation 3 was delayed.

Nearly everyone loves the way that Gears of War plays online in its four-on-four way that is based on "stop-n-pop" strategy that involves hiding, taking cover, sniping, and many other forms of strategy. Resistance: FOM is a "run-n-gun" game that doesn't use as much strategy, and it only runs at 30 frames per second, even though the developers said they wanted it to run at 60 so that the speed of the game could work well with the gameplay. Sadly, that goal was not achieved, and that is one of the reasons why RFOM did not live up to its potential and received very mixed reviews.

Another reason why people say that Resistance: FOM on the Playstation 3 did not live up to its potential and received mixed reviews is because it does not include a Co-Op Online mode for the Single Player part of the game.

The Online Co-Op mode for Gears of War and Perfect Dark Zero are my favorite parts of those games; they add SO MUCH to the gameplay experience. Gears of War is particularly cool because you are not only working with your Online friend, but also a couple of other people controlled by the computer in those action scenes. That is the way Halo 3 will be. It wouldn't surprise me if Halo 3 even had a mode where you could have more than two players in the Co-Op Online version of the Single player quest.
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/05

"It is unfortunate that there really are about one-million people who are that stupid,"

Don't try to differentiate between ignorance and stupidity when you used the term stupid. You should be banned for flaming. You should also stay out of PS3 forums. You keep trying to sell a system(that many of us have) and all you do is look more rediculous. Spreading mistruths, propaganda, and your opinion labelled as "public perception/fact" is asinine. Post something new, or stfu. Speaking from experience is not valid as you have no experience obviously w/ the PS3. Even if you did (would be limited at best) your bias blinds you to any form of reliability as a source of competant critiqing.

Obviously, I am too 'stupid' to trust what Sony has provided me with since 1996, a quality machine w/ quality games. There are not many at this very moment, but there are a number coming down the pipeline very soon that I look forward to. If "I" enjoy it, who are you to tell me otherwise? You are a general annoyance, the unwelcome itch on the end of the nose during a formal event that cannot be scratched. FWIW, PDZ sucked. I speak from experience, not what I "hear" or "read."

Response to VaeVictus:

Let me update you about what DM said. DM said that it was alright to debate in ways that could even be considered a "fight." However, he said that it was not alright to "curse." In other words, he means that people can debate very strongly about legitimate issues, but he doesn't want people swearing, OR using swear word abbreviations, LIKE YOU JUST DID in the response above this one!

I believe it is tremendously immature that you would continue to ask DM to remove other people from a website in the childish immature way that you are doing.

I am not trying to "sell a system," because I am fully aware of the fact that virtually everyone on this website is a hardcore game that already owns the Xbox 360.

My main problem takes place when immature people like you and Mr. New York try to bash other systems like the Wii and the Xbox 360, or the HD-DVD format in ways that are inappropriate, simply because of a blind-type of "Lemming-Style-Loyalty" to the Playstation brand-name.

When I see that happening, it really does upset me a little bit, and that is why I want to set things straight.

I fully understand that you were happy with your Playstation 1 and Playstation 2. I had those systems as well, and I was pleased with them, too. Those were fun game systems that were reasonably priced.

However, the Playstation 3 is not like the Playstation 1 or the Playstation 2. The Playstation 3 is not reasonably priced. The overwhelming majority of gamers cannot afford the "value" that Sony claims is associated with the Playstation 3. That is like a car company saying, "Our car is a great value, and it only costs $1 million dollars, compared to $1.5 million that our competitors charge." The bottom line is that the Playstation 3 is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, and it offers performance that is disappointing.

Sony claimed that the Playstation 3 would offer a "4D gaming experience." This obviously never happened, nor will it ever happen. At this point in time, even the Playstation magazines that compare the Playstation 3 to the Xbox 360 say things like, "The Playstation 3 doesn't have anything that compares to Gears of War on the Xbox 360." They say things like, "Games appearing on both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have better graphics on the Xbox 360. They say things like, "Games appearing on both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 include Online Voice Chat during play, but the Playstation 3 versions don't offer that feature."

I am simply trying to point those facts out to people so that they don't make the mistake of spending nearly $1,000 for a Playstation 3, some games, cables, and controllers that don't rumble or vibrate.

My Playstation 3 sits on the shelf collecting dust because it doesn't have any games I want to play on it.

If the Playstation 3 didn't have competition from the Xbox 360, I am sure that it would be selling well, because all of those games from EA Sports and 2K Sports are pretty good.

But THE KEY THING I AM TRYING TO POINT OUT is that the reason my Playstation 3 collects dust rather than being played is because the Xbox 360 offers BETTER GAMES!

I do NOT want to play games like John Madden Football, or any of the EA Sports or 2K Sports games on the Playstation 3, because the Xbox 360 versions are BETTER!!! The Xbox 360 versions allow me to play online and talk to people online while playing the game using Voice Chat. The Playstation 3 does NOT allow that sort of Voice Chat to occur while playing games from EA Sport or 2K Sports, and the list goes on and on.

In all honesty, if there weren't bigmouth people on websites that quote the arrogant things said by Ken Kutaragi and Kaz Hirai, then I wouldn't have to put so much effort into setting the record straight.

The fact of the matter is that the Xbox 360 and the Wii are outselling the Playstation 3 by HUGE margins worldwide.

The fact of the matter is that both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have sold very poorly in Japan. This is a much bigger deal for the Playstation 3, though, because it just launched, and it has already lost its popularity. Playstation 3 popularity is decreasing at an accelerated rate. The Xbox 360 popularity has actually been increasing ever since Blue Dragon was released.

The important thing to remember though is this: Even if one system outsells another system by a ratio of 10:1 in a certain country, it doesn't matter if the total number of systems sold was 10 for one system and only 1 for another. The Playstation 3 may be selling slightly more than the Xbox 360 in Japan, but the PS3 is still selling terribly poorly there. Playstation 3 was counting on Japanese sales from the beginning, while the Xbox 360 was not...that is the HUGE difference.

That is not a mistruth, a lie or a false propaganda. It sounds to me like you have been watching too much Rocky IV.

Take a look at this website to see that the Playstation 3 is collecting dust in Japan, even at the reduced price of $329! kotaku.com/gaming/top/japanese-stores-slashing-20gb-prices-230297.php

Friend, IGN made it clear that the Playstation 3 is NOT like the Playstation 1 or the Playstation 2. When games like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil were released on the PS1 and the Sega Saturn, they were often better on the PS1. But this time, the games are better on the Xbox 360, not only in terms of graphics and Offline features, but more importantly in terms of Online features such as Voice Chat, and the ability to listen to MP3 songs while you are playing Xbox 360 games. Those kind of features are simply not offered in Playstation 3 games, even though they are on the Xbox 360 versions.

Reasons like that are why IGN has said that the Playstation 3 has completely ruined the decade-old Playstation brand-name.

@@@@@@ Unbisead Professor.

I own a xbox360 and a ps3.

Yes its true that sofware comes first , no doubt.

There will be great games to the ps3 , once they come , the ps brand will enter in that "momentun" again , MGS 4 WILL BE A GREAT GAME , final fantasy 13 will be a great game etc... face it man , the xbox360 is a fps console , sony good good stuff on all areas , the xbox360 too.

I dont think that the xbox360 will end with the ps brand momentun that easy , trust me , i speaking from experience and from what people are saying to me.

Sony mess up the ps3 in many ways , but his 2 other consoles conpensate for it.

I belive that booth consoles will be winners , selling over 30 million units each by 2009.

Please lie , saying that u own a ps3.... dont try to sell stuff on this site , guess what , mr unbisead works for microsoft advertizing on websites.

Please stop asking DM to "ban" people. It is very unprofessional of you to try to influence his decision. He is the one who has the authority to run this website, and the fact that he recently decided to put a firm rule in place about the "swearing" on the website shows that he definitely is responsible in terms of using that authority in the proper ways.

Response to VaeVictus:

I do admire Mr. Bill Gates and the way he has helped the world as a philanthropist. He has donated over $30 billion of his personal wealth to start a charity organization that helps the world. That charity organization is now worth over $60 billion because his friend, Mr. Warren Buffett--the world's second richest man--also donated $30 billion of his personal wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates charity organization.

If Mr. Gates wanted something to drink, I don't know if I would hop in my car and travel hundreds of miles to give it to him, but if I was near a coffee machine, I would be glad to help out...and if you wouldn't, then that means you are a mean person who holds a grudge because the Xbox 360 and Wii have outsold the Playstation 3 by such huge margins.

As far as what you said about the Famitsu Top 10, I think it is very convenient the way that you only mention the first five, and that you leave out the fact that Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360 appears in the Top 10...it's almost as if you didn't list the second half of the Top 10 because you didn't want people to be aware of that fact.

Also, although the Famitsu Top 10 lists Biohazard for the Playstation 3 in the Top 10, they conveniently leave out the fact that it will also be released for the Xbox 360...so, it is worth taking that into consideration.

Also, let's consider four other things:

(1) Final Fantasy XIII will not be released in Japan until sometime in 2008...and that is considered the "most wanted PS3 game." With that in mind, it is easy to see why the Playstation 3 is selling so poorly in Japan.

Also, those poor sales of the Playstation 3 in Japan will likely motivate Square-Enix to do the same thing Sega did with Virtua Fighter 5, and that will be release Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360 in Japan. There is an excellent chance of this happening, especially when you consider Square-Enix actually has more games in development for the Xbox 360 than they do the PS3, and they have released Final Fantasy XI for the Xbox 360.

(2) MGS4 is listed for the Playstation 3, but let's also take into consideration that it won't be released until late 2007, and we also need to take into consideration that it will almost certainly be released for the Xbox 360, as well.

Here is the important factor about MGS4's ability to sell systems. If the PS3 cost only $199, like the PS2 did when MGS was released, then it would sell a lot of systems right away. It didn't matter that MGS2 was released later for the original Xbox because the PS2 was priced low enough that people were able to buy the system and the game as soon as it was released for the PS2, and then they weren't really motivated to buy the Xbox version, even though it included extra features.

Well, things are different this time. This time, it doesn't matter if the Playstation 3 gets MGS4 first. The PS3 is FAR TOO EXPENSIVE for people to just say, "Well, I will go out and purchase this, and this game, and some high-definition cables, since it doesn't come with any." This time, it makes a LOT more sense to wait for the superior Xbox 360 version to be released, because it will almost certainly have all sorts of online features not included in the Playstation 3 version--that just goes without saying.

The bottom line is that the impact of individual games is minimized VERY MUCH in terms of their ability to sell PS3 systems, because the very high price of the PS3 causes such a huge problem by automatically limiting the number of potential customers that can be targeted for sales in that price range.

(3) Sadly, Gundam is one of the Top 5 games wanted in Japan's Famitsu magazine. This is VERY disturbing! Famitsu gave the PS3 Gundam game a score of 8 out of 10, even though the game averaged a score of 3 out of 10 in North America!!! Gundam is only listed in the Top-10 because of the Japanese culture liking Gundam, not because it is actually a good game. It is sort of like how games like Superman are always top-sellers in North America, even though they are crappy games that receive poor reviews.

You see, no matter what someone posts, you have some BS response. You can't see facts for what they are, facts.

You should really check in to a psychiatric ward. The extent that you'll go to convince yourself and "attempt" to convince others of what you type is sad truly. The amount of time you spend typing the same thing over and over again has to at some point get old to you, b/c it has long since gotten old to the rest of us. It won't work. Despite your attempts, there will be 3 consoles that thrive this generation, and the next.

A superior version of MGS4 going to the 360 only shows your lunacy even further. Kojima has stated that the game is made 'for the PS3' and will not be released on the 360.

FF13 will not see the 360, ever. The PS3 has already dominated the 360 there, why would they release a game on a console that has no presence in that territory? It's so bad that MS has to dig into their pockets and promote the system even further b/c their Blue Dragon give away promotion didn't work.

Biohazard will sell more on the PS3 than the 360 in Japan. The reason Famitsu doesn't list it on thte 360 is b/c they probably refuse to acknowledge that the 360 even exists.

I have to say this.

UTP is very well educated and very intelligent on what he says. I can tell you do a lot of research and you understand everything you say. Hate to see people so jealous of you that they make fun of you. Keep it up it helps people like me to lazy to research everything you know. I've been reading this site a very long time and I must say this, Everyone who makes fun of UTP of being a fanboy of Microsoft what does it make you that you defend Sony so loyally when all they do is lie to you?
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/02/09

I defend no one. I call people out when they make things up or consider their opinion (however educated one might think it is) to be fact. It is easy to post something you've read, spin it and then act as though it is fact. Jealous I am not. Fed up with reading the same biased garbage a 1000 times, I am. It's one thing to discuss it, it's another to try to sell it 100% of the time. He changes the subjects at hand, and then rambles on about the same thing paragraph after paragraph. The fact that he calls himself "Unbiased" is my biggest point of contention. He must not know what that means. Don't bring veggies to the big boy table, meat is all that is eaten here.
