The famous Bizarre Kudos racing system is back, where you perform power slides, braking feints, and other assorted driving feats to gain points, or Kudos, and they are called. As you gain Kudos, more cars will be accessible, from concept models to superfast supercars. The cars themselves feel a bit more weighty than they did in PGR2, they also perform like they have more mass, and the physics engine has been tweaked. Not so much that fans of the series will be upset, just enough to notice. All it really means is that if you are en experienced PGR driver you will have to take a few races to get used to the new tweaks. Nothing major. The AI in the game is hard if you set it on the most difficult setting, and one feature I surely liked is the fact you can choose the difficulty setting before each event, meaning if you are having trouble in one race you can turn it down to medium or easy to get it done. Now let’s talk about some of the downsides of the game. First off, and this is something that may not even be Bizarre’s fault because it may be a limitation of the Xbox360, but you cannot change songs in a custom play list by using the d-pad. Having to skip to the next song by using the Xbox button really cuts into the gameplay. Another thing I noticed is the game has its fair share of graphical glitches. Especially when racing at night. It does not happen in every race, but here are some places to look. Tail-lights, lane lines, and track that is far ahead. The tail-lights of some cars at night will show a glitching popup at times, and if you care races next to lane lines on some tracks, the edge of the car will have a pixilation effect as if the anti-aliasing is having a hard time keeping up with the alternating white and asphalt color of the lane marker. Also, if you look ahead of your car at times you can see where the polygons of the track split, forming a thin black line. These are things that you will notice if you play enough, now that you are looking for them. Now let’s go to the mode by mode. |
