Ok ladies and gentlemen, it is time for another one of my review which, as evidenced by the forums, you all love! Ha you all wish you were as good of a reviewer as me. Pariah is Digital Extremes' new FPS game, and I have worked it over for your reading pleasure. Does it make the cut? Lets begin.

Let me start by saying this game was one I have anticipated since the first word of it was leaked over a year ago. Nothing using the unreal engine and havok physics could be bad right? Wrong. Let me start by saying that the graphics in this game are 2 sided. They look fantastic. I don't think you could get much better graphics on the Xbox. That being said, let me bring up the other graphic aspect. The frame rate. At best, the frame rate must hover somewhere around 30fps, or at least that what it seems like. At worst, it must drop to somewhere around 20fps. This is unacceptable in a first person shooter. The sound was nothing special either, regular bullets and grunts.

The single player campaign is entertaining for a few. You begin at the site where your flyer was just shot down by a scavenger missile. You then proceed to breach an enemy base and regain the virus ridden woman who was taken by the scavengers. The dialogue is run of the mill and the story is nothing inspired. Believe me. As you progress through the first player game, you realize that you are able to acquire, at most, 6 weapons (if you count the hand to hand weapon). You also realize that there is no alternate fire mode for weapons, and no grenades or incendiaries. In this day and age how can you make an FPS without grenades? Seems silly to even think about it doesn't it.

On to multiplayer. Let me start by saying the multiplayer maps are a treat to view. Real eye candy. Beyond that though, multiplayer is as big of a disappointment as the single player game. To begin, there are only 4 maps you can play on, unlocking only a few others. Not only that, but there are only 5 multiplayer game modes to start with, all variations of the classic FPS multiplayer modes - nothing innovative here. Aside from that, the fact that you can not use grenades or modes of alternate fire just adds to the general dismay. Another point which hardcore FPS gamers will not be too happy with is the fact that even with the sensitivity turned all the way up for the axis controls, it still takes a good 1 or 2 seconds to turn 180 degrees. Yes, it's that slow. As I finished with this mode I began to wonder if this game was indeed made by experienced FPS designers.
