Capcom Responds To Claims Dead Rising Is Unplayable On SDTVs >
2006/08/14 19:21:39: Posted by DM
As some of you may have, no doubt, experienced, those gamers who are playing Dead Rising on a standard definition TV (non-HD), are having problems reading the in-game text. This includes item names, mission objectives, information boxes, and more. It seems that on smaller SD sets the text is simply unreadable at any viewing distance. Capcom has finally responded to this issue on their offical forums, but do not get too excited just yet. Capcom basically said they are aware of the problem, and that fixes take time. Oh and, thanks for your hard-earned money!

Buy a better tv. Problem solved.
Written by Matt (160) on 2006/08/14

Thanks your your brilliant insight there. I'm sure everyone who has an SDTV can afford an HDTV!
Written by Itaintrite on 2006/08/14

Buy a vga cable that allows you to play your 360 on a PC monitor. These things are dirt cheap.
Written by blah on 2006/08/14

dang that sucks for the SDTV peeps
Written by bob (280) on 2006/08/14

I'm with LC on this one. If you can afford a $400 game machine, you should be able to afford a decent TV.

Maybe someone just saved enough money up for a 360 and bought it? I doubt those people have an extra $400 for a cheap hdtv.

If u can afford a $400 system, and buy tha games for $60,then u can afford a HDTV, just get an computer LCD monitor instead
Written by BradTN (1) on 2006/08/15

oh stfu you losers with the buy a hdtv crap.
Written by Oen on 2006/08/15

The bottom line is.. I shouldn't have to buy a better TV to play a game. It should work on all TVs.

Its like buying a car, and being told it only works on some roads.

I've got my 360 connected to a 27" SDTV and I can baaaaaaarely read it. I can see how any tv smaller would be impossible to read. Good thing I have a 20" widescreen LCD for my computer and a vga cable. THAT is damn nice.

Just want to say stfu to the Spoilt rich kids in this thread.

I have a Samsung 32" HD LCD (connected to my 360) in my bed room. I also have a 42" HD LG plasma in my living room and a 27" SD Sony wega trinitron in my little girls bedroom. I'm not rich, but I spend and use my money wisely (this is the key to having shit). Anyways, if I purchase a game I expect the game to be playable on all my sets.
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (249) on 2006/08/15

Cant the 360 detect the output resolution and adjust the text size accordingly? They've been doing this in multi-rez PC games for ages.
Written by sharod on 2006/08/15

"Spoiled rich kids"? How about people who have JOBS and know how to save and spend their money accordingly. Why would you buy a 400+ dollar system to play on an inferior/old TV set? That's like buying a Ferrari and never going faster that 60mph...
Written by Test (102) on 2006/08/15

Damn, I play on a standard def tv...and I can still read the text just fine, I actually like it better being somewhat smaller, it doesn't get in the way if a zombie is coming up behind you.

Instead of "getting a better tv" maybe pay a visit to the eye doc?
Written by silverwolf on 2006/08/15

Well you also have to think. How many of these people bitching actually take the time to calibrate there TV's in the first place!
Written by Inferno22 (63) on 2006/08/15

I have a hdtv and a Job, but I am not stupid enough like you to assume every one who owns a xbox360 has tons of money to spend and has a job. A lot of xbox360 owners can be students as well with partime jobs barley getting by to pay their bills.

So stop generalizing everyone under your own situation. Maybe someone saved enough for a 360 and rents games, how can he afford a new hdtv?

Inferno22 like I stated "people who have JOBS and KNOW how to SAVE and spend their money ACCORDINGLY". If you're a college student barely struggling to get by and can't pay your bills then you most likely don't need a 400+ dollar console. What good is a X360 when you can't pay your electric bill?

Oh and for the record, I'm a student, I work FULL time(I'm at work right now!), and I'm able to spend, save, and enjoy anything I want because I'm not an idiot who would blow money on a videogame machine if I could barely afford it.
Written by ej (100) on 2006/08/15

yeah this is sad telling someone to buy a new tv lol. some people may have better things to spend that money on a new tv may not be what they want
Written by Inferno22 (63) on 2006/08/15

Sharod there are people in this world who save money up just to buy a system so they have somthing to do in their spare time and dont have much disposable income. They dont go broke by buying the console but it sure does put a dent in their wallet.

Now you expect them to go out and buy a new tv because a game is unplayable on a regular tv? You are a moron sir if you think that.

Even if someone has the money to buy a hdtv, why would they waste the money on it if they dont really want it? Just so they can read text in a game which should of been readable in the first place on a regular tv? Coem on buddy your arguement is stupid.
Written by sharod on 2006/08/15

Inferno22 well if you're one of "those people" you're an idiot. You're going to drop 400+ dollars on something you can't fully utilize, or barely afford? As I stated above, that makes you an idiot.

Not once did I say the game shouldn't be playable on a regular TV. It just makes no sense that you would spend that much money on something you couldn't fully experience.

Yeah I'm sure there's plenty of people out there with money to afford an HDTV to go with their X360, but because they don't want an HDTV they won't buy it, even uf they could afford.... That makes a whole lot of sense haha.
Written by Nemesis IX (371) on 2006/08/15

thats a bit harsh Sharod, but i agree with your second part i lucky enough where i could easily afford a HDTV but i just don't want 1. i'm waiting for a year or so till i get 1 or i might wait till that organic tv LG are making comes out and get that.

The text on quite a few games for the Xbox 360 had TINY text like that. I really don't know what the problems of the game developers are. Do they not understand that a large number of Xbox 360 gamers do not have HDTVs to play on. This means that it is necessary to make the game with a larger form of text; that way, it will look good on both an HDTV and a Standard Definition TV.

Microsoft Employees: Make sure that the proper people at Microsoft are aware of this problem so that it doesn't happen in future titles. Having small text on an SDTV is a really stupid problem that shouldn't be there. Perfect Dark Zero looks fine on a SDTV, so why does Dead Rising have small text!!!!
Written by sharod on 2006/08/15

Nemesis IX nothing wrong with waiting to get an HDTV. Eventually you'll be able to get a higher quality TV for a cheaper price. If you got the money and you bought the sysem; might as well get the most out of it, or not buy it at all. That's my philosophy :P

sharod in the UK we didnt even get HDTV untill about may this year when sky launched it so only the rich or die hard tech geeks are gonna own a HDTV... i bet a lot of the people who borght a 360 in the UK dont even no what a HDTV is unless they have been shopping for a TV in the last year or so. When you pay £280+ for a console you expect it to work on your tv wether its a HDTV or SDTV. What about all the school kids who probly play on a portable 4:3 tv in there room they aint botherd about getting the most out of it, aslong as they can play the latest games.
Written by Inferno22 (63) on 2006/08/15

@Sharod thanks for assuming I am 1 of those persons, just shows how stupid you are. I actually own 2 hdtvs in my home so please dont make assumptions.

Also I have like 3 friends who bought a 360 and play it on regular SDTV because they dont know or care about the difference of HD, even though you tried xbox360 on hd at my place.

To assume anyone who plots down $400 on a machine and is willing to buy an even expensive television just for it is stupid. Maybe most people on here are tech savy and have invested into hdtvs, but look at the population not even 20% own hdtvs in their home I think currently.

Either way maybe you expect anyone who buys a 360 to buy an hdtv, but the fact is not everyone does.
Written by Spike (52) on 2006/08/15

They say they are going to be patches for this problem...will patching the game work with the people that bought the $300 version as it has no HDD??...I think that most people that bought the cheaper version don't have HDTVs

99% of all Xbox 360 games look fine on an SDTV, EDTV, or HDTV. However, I do have to admit that it can be a little annoying on games like Dead Rising with small text. I have only played a few Xbox 360 games with text like that. I have absolutely no clue how a company like Rare can make Perfect Dark Zero look fine, but a company like Capcom doesn't take the time to realize that the SDTV format means text needs to be larger, due to the difference in resolution.

Agreed w./1st statement! Better buy a better tv!

p.s. I luv the game!
