Multiplayer mode is where, obviously, you will be doing all of your multiplayer gaming. There is split-screen mode, system link mode, and Xbox Live mode. All the modes feature the same mutiplyer game options, and you can even use the custom maps you build in the map editor in multiplayer mode. Split screen mode has a max of 4 players, of course, and both System Link and Xbox Live modes support 16 players. The multiplayer modes are listed below.

Chaos mp mode is the basic solo deathmatch mode. Team Chaos mode is, obviously, team deathmatch mode. Steal the Sample mode is FCP’s version of capture the flag. Teams have to steal a sample of goo from the enemy’s base and return it to their own base for a point. One clever feature of this mode worth mentioning is that players can toss the sample to another player (like a lateral pass in football), and the player who tossed the sample can then use his or her weapon. Predator mode is probably one of the most unique online multiplayer modes you will find in a game. There are two teams, mercenaries and predators. The mercenary team must haul-ass through the predator’s territory to reach a sonic transmitter which will kill the predator players. The predator team members will have all their feral skills at their disposal to prevent this eventuality. It is just as much fun as it sounds. Seek and Secure is the new online mode that has been added. This mode is FCP’s version of domination. There is a station in the map and the team who holds this station for a pre-determined amount of time wins the round.

In Xbox Live play, you can select either ranked match or player match, as per usual. The only other options on the main Xbox Live menu are a stats view and a friends list quick access which certainly helps facilitate the formation of games. When I played, just like in most Xbox Live games, I experienced almost no lag, and sometimes I even hosted the matches.

The map editor mode is one of the most unique features of Far Cry games. This is where you can literally create your own multiplayer maps, something you rarely find outside of PC games. The map creation interface is very easy to understand, and it is streamlined to help make your creations flow. As I said earlier, you can use any map you create online, and once the other players have downloaded the map, it works flawlessly. The map editor feature pretty much doubles the replay factor of FCP. One thing to note, you will need a memory card or HDD to use the map editor.
