Wii Outselling PS3 & Xbox360 Combined In US > |
2007/06/15 8:01:45: Posted by DM | |
The latest NPD figures out out folks, and iit seems the Wii is still continuing its market domination. Over 338,000 Wii units were sold during the month of May, compared to 155,000 Xbox units and just 82,000 PS3 units. This means the PS3 and 360 combined did not even outsell the Wii. Believe it or not, the DS even outsold the Wii. The little handheld that could is still going strong, with 423,000 units sold in May.In terms of software, Pokemon Diamond for the DS was at the top of the chart, followed by Mario Party 8 for the Wii, Spidey for the PS2, and then Pokemon Pearl and Wii Play. The Xbox360 pretty much dominated the second half of the top 10 with Forza 2, Guitar Hero II, Spider-Man 3, and X&X 3: Tiberium Wars. The Summer lull may not be ver pronounced this year with a few quality PS3, Wii, and Xbox360 titles slated throughout the Summer.

Nintendo must be raking in the cash off of the Wii and DS. I can't wait for Metroid, SSB: Brawl, and Mario Galaxy to come out. I've played Zelda and Paper Mario to death already.

I'm half surprised that the Wii is doing so well. The console itself sucks, but Nintendo did a good job of marketing it towards the masses. It just goes to show you.

Duh, the Official Xbox Magazine has reported on this a long time ago.I even wrote about this a couple times before and so did other people. Why wasn't this reported on before by this website; it is nothing new.I agree with all the people who say it's surprising how well the Wii has sold. The success of the Wii should serve as a reminder that it isn't the people with huge HDTV sets that ultimately determine the success of the systems; it's the mass market that determines ultimate success.
Xbox 360 is the market leader, and Wii is only about 3.5 million systems behind. If prices stayed the same, the Wii would probably be only a couple years away from overtaking the Xbox 360. But, I don't think prices will stay the same. I think the Xbox 360 price drop that a lot of people are expecting will open up the system to an entirely new market of people once that $199 pricepoint is reached for the Core system, and probably $299 for the Premium. When that happens, the Wii and the Xbox 360 will be in very similar pricepoints and the mass market door will be open for both systems.
bob is right about how Nintendo targeted the masses in a great way. I girls who aren't interested in anything but there Wii games. I saw some old people at the store buying a Wii system, and I watched them play it. I then heard then say they were buying it for themselves!

Wow, X of 360 says a lot of things I agree with.

I seriously doubt the Wii and 360 will ever be 'in very similar pricepoints'. If 360 drops dramitically, so will Wii.

i think the core 360 might cost close to the wii
