Xbox360 Red Ring Finally Explained? >
2008/06/11 8:43:57: Posted by DM
Apparently, the Red Ring of Death issues that have plagued Xbox360 units, may finally be explained. According to Bryan Lewis, research VP and chief analyst at Gartner, Microsoft insisted on manufacturing the GPU unit for the Xbox360 in-house, rather than paying an experienced third party to do it. Eventually, to try and fix the problem, said Lewis, MS went back to an unnamed ASIC vendor and redesigned the chip. According to him, it was probably ATI.

"Had Microsoft left the graphics processor design to an ASIC vendor in the first place, would they have been able to avoid this problem? Probably. The ASIC vendor could have been able to design a graphics processor that dissipates much less power."

Bullshit. It was designed by ATI from the beginning and MS bought the design from them completely to avoid royalties.

Pimp that blows, my original launch console died 6 months ago, I have had no issue with the replacement that MS sent out, but it did take 2 weeks to go through the process, hopefully it is a little quicker now. I had withdrawal symtoms after 2 days, it got so bad that after a week I was cutting the lawn and doing house projects without my wife giving me shit. Goodluck....

Sorry guys it was a bad joke. I didn't get the RROD. I was just trying to help generate hits on this article. I guess every member of the SDF was to busy being sucked into MGS4 to give me grief about RROD. Incoming00 and The Limey thanks for your concern though. Limey, the only way my wife could get me to do those house projects is if my PC died. I still remember when I didn't have internet access for 3 days straight. Damn I was lost. If you guys have PS3's enjoys MGS4. Everything I have read is very positive. See everybody in a few days once they have beaten the game for some more fanboy wars :p
