Ken Kutaragi On The PS3 - 'It's Too Cheap' >
2006/05/12 17:08:44: Posted by purbeast
Sony Computer Entertainment Chief, Ken Kutaragi, is claiming that the Playstation 3 is going to be "too cheap" according to Engadget. I'm sure compared to the money that guy can spend, $600 is nothing, but to the average consumer, $600 for a gaming console has never been considered "too cheap." lol !!!! ahhahahahah

now thats funny.... oh wait comparing to the system cost yea it is cheap but we never asked for blue ray or 7 processor !!! look at 9 gig for xbox and ps3 50 gig doesn't look too much different just little !!! so really if the graphic is similar then price should be too ! shouldn't it ? then why bother do blue ray when u can do 9 gig like xbox !!!!

499 will not include hdmi ! whats the point of getting it when u getting blue ray included !!!

this is ridiculous ! i still want ps3 though ! but not at the moment !

Sony's most profitable part of their business is the playstation part the rest are suffering so they figured why not use the most successful part of our business (playstation) to push other aspects of our business.

Enter Blu ray and Cell.

The cell is awesome though, but the perfect console would be cell + the 360's gpu.

Then again in terms of ease of programmability that would be a major problem which is why I see the 360 as the better value in the long run.

To Optaviusx : You Just what I Said A Few Posts Back : I Don't Know If Anyone Watched G4 E3 06 Live Yesterday, There Was An Interview With John Carmack (For Those That Don't Know I'm, He Is The Creator Of The Quake And Doom Franchise, Yes A Legend) And He Said That Sony Was Using The Fan Base From The PS1 And PS2 To Force Developers To Stay With Sony, And He Also Said That 360 VS PS3 = Same Thing, One A More Processor Power And The Other One As A Better Video Card, Etc... Programming For The 360 Is Easy And Programming For The PS3 Will Suck All The Blood From The Programmers...

Now Don't Start Saying That John Carmack Is FanBoy Or Shit He His A Legend And He Knows What He His Talking About.

Another Example Is Cliffy B. (For The Ones That Don't Know I'm... You Are Not Gamers !) That Also Said A Few Weeks Back The Same Thing.

My Two Cents : Sony His Using The PS3 To Boost Other Sales (Blue-Ray Discs, TV’s, Cell, Etc), Why You Ask Because Its Almost The Only Section Of Sony It Is Making Profits To The Corporation.

To Sony : When You Will Start To Think About Us GAMERS, And Bring Us Something New, That You Are Not Using Ideas From Another Company, I Will Buy One, Until Then I Will Buy Something Else That Really Thinks First And Mostly About The Gamers.

Man I'm going to own all 3 no matter what because that's just the way I am about videogames. I love them. Sony is just relying on market share once again but I think it might bight them in the butt this time. The whole blu ray thing is ridiculous and then no hdmi for 500 bones, come on. This is just tricking the basic consumer and little kids parents which is a damn shame. I think when it comes down to it sony will own Japan once again because of loyalty but when it comes to the U.S. and Europe people are going to choose the 360 because of bang for the buck. Hey and come on face it, Nintendo is going to stay where they are just with a little more excitement and market share because they are revolutionists (as the original console name implied) and getting back to that root they once strayed away from.

lol you hear this nonsense? You know that game assassins creed the "ps3 exclusive"? Which has a demo being shown right now at E3? They have yet to announce the game for the 360 and yet are running a demo for the game and advertising for the ps3 using an xbox360.

Yes they are running a demo for a ps3 exclusive game behind closed doors on an xbox360 hidden under a sheet... Showing off graphics capabilities you can expect in real world gameplay using a 360 and its gpu's capabilities. Anyone see something wrong with that picture? Ign posted the article and quickly removed it I made a post showing the article in its entirety in the forums.

No, it's true. Multiple people saw the 360 when seeing the demo, and it was a joke going around E3.

Ubisoft probably called IGN's marketing department and complained, who then ran up to the IGN warroom at E3 in a panic "Ubisoft will pull all ads if we don't remove that story about their deception on the floor!" And thus it was pulled. It's how things work.

And here is some more from the same person.

"The pad is what gave it away to...everyone.

Every single playable PlayStation 3 game at E3 was using an actual PS3 controller connected with the USB connector (bolted to the controller) and going to an actual (visible) PS3 dev kit.

Assassins was the ONLY "PS3" game to use a generic third party PlayStation 2 controller going to a sheet.

They had a closed-in white Assassins demo room right at one of the entrances to the Ubisoft booth."

From what I understand from Sony's Pre-E3 2005 press conference, the PS3 was supposed to run the Linux distro that comes on the hard drive as a standard operating system just like a regular computer. It seems in the 2006 press conference they didn't even mention Linux, nor mentioned anything about using a keyboard and mouse for games, like UT2k7, which they alluded to during E3 2005, also. Maybe they thought there'd be no need to restate it, but I think they're backing away from their earlier commitments. Perhaps after it's released we'll be able to see if there's any value to plopping down 500-600 dollars.

Yea sony definetly backed off from a number of commitments in their press conference. They didn't get into specifics of their online plan, pricing how they plan to beat xbox live etc. We didn't get cell, gpu or all around ps3 spec numbers at all aside from the fact that they mentioned blu ray and its storage capacity advantage on the 360's standard DVD.

Lets just hope they deliver the hardware at the specs they've been promising for so long.

They've been getting further and further away from the all ps3 games would run at the tru hi-def 1080p commitment in addition to the "ps3 would suppose dual 1080p outputs at 120fps" comment.

You Can Say Good Buy To The Dual 1080p It As Only One HDMI Out.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/12
I know even if it had 2 hdmi it still wouldn't be possible to have 2 dual 1080p outputs running at 120fps. 60fps isn't even possible currently for HDTVs... 1080p currently isn't even an hdtv standard. Only 720p and 1080i. I remember sony calling 720p inferior and a joke and a sign that the 360 is only a minor upgrade over the xbox. I hope people remember than when the most graphically impressive ps3 titles are 720p.

And Those Impressive PS3 Titles Were Running In 360's If The Rumour Is True...
Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/12
Only Assassins Creed was running on a 360. Tons of people have confirmed it many people there especially.

G4tv were going rather crazy about how awesome this ps3 title looks they got to see the game in motion behind closed doors (now we know why) and they came away very impressed. If only they knew it was running on a 360.

I'm not saying the ps3 wont have specific games that look as good or better than some 360 titles, but its kinda deceptive running a demo for a supposed ps3 exclusive on an xbox360 then have the audacity not to atleast announce the game for the 360 as well considering the impressive progress they are showing off and what people are truly excited about is not the ps3 version of the game, but a 360 version of it that has yet to be announced or may never be announced.

Opta, don't mean to troll, but there is a diff between fps and refresh rate. I have run quake 3 at around 120 fps on my hdtv. And 1080p24,1080p25, and 1080p30 are display standards, not sure if 1080p50 and 1080p60 are yet, but I think they are recording standards. You can look it up over on wikipedia or the ATSC page.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/12
I should've been more clear regardless of fps the refresh rate will not being 60 at 1080p will slow the action. Plus if ps3 games aim to be graphically impressive which they do.. we wont exactly be seeing the ps3's best and brightest running in 1080p. 720p is the best choice and developers have got to realize that fact which I'm sure most do which is why I think they'll aim for the smarter 720p and make their games gorgeous.

The sacrifices that will have to be made up at 1080p isn't worth it. Who knows what will be tossed.. True HDR rendering... Softshadows on everything in the environment Antialiasing.. I'm not saying ALL of these will have to be sacrificed, but atleast 2 will need to be for the ps3 to run 1080p unless of course they decide to decrease texture quality and use less geometry like they are doing for GT HD.

Seriously guys, at $500 and $600 they are practically giving these suckers away. You tell em, Ken!

Apparently GT HD was running on a PC, Sony are digging a great big hole from themselves.
Written by Smarty Pants (26) on 2006/05/13
PS3 demos (including GH-HD) were running off final dev kits, which look a lot like standard PCs. No need to BS to support your bias.

Opta, as usual you making too many assumptions to support your own baises and MS paycheck. You throw terms out there to make to it sound like you're not pulling it from your a$$. The intial slew of PS3 games will be 720p while late cycle games will be 1080p. Developers need to get familar with the system and they need to release games in a hurry. No doubt the system will be fully utilised on later games. Just look at the difference between a launch PS2 game and God of War or Shadow of the Collossus. See what i mean? Haha, 360 is already maxed out at 720p. No need for HDMI at all, you 360 fanboys saved some monies.

It was probably a mistake on Sony's part to release those intial specs (2 HDMI, etc). Now that they're not meeting them, fanboy-extraordinaires like opta are going medevil on them. The thing is, if Sony had just kept their mouth shut people wouldn't give a $hit about things like 1 HDMI (which 360 doesnt even support).
