First PS3s Off The Line Will Be PAL Units, Sony Says > |
2006/05/25 11:38:43: Posted by DM | |
According to MCV, SCEE president and CEO David Reeves has revealed that the first PS3s off the production line will be PAL units. This move is to help convince the PAL terrotories that Sony is serious this time about not leaving them behind. No word on software delays, of course, but it is a good first step.

There is always a big difference between what Sony says to satisfy people and what Sony really ends up doing. Written by cyrix_0 on 2006/05/25

I don't feel it makes a difference if PAL is first or not. It's the price of the system and games thats going to show if Sony is series about the PS3 and alot of people just can't afford $600 dollars. Written by dirka (4) on 2006/05/25

dirka.. PAL is the format that either Europe or Australia uses for their DVD games. Here in the States we use NTSC format for our games. it also applies to movies. Written by dirka (4) on 2006/05/25

What happen to region free? Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/25
You know what is surprising there?? Even if they have to deliver small numbers on day one? I've had a suspicion from the get go they wouldn't hit their lofty launch goals or the 6 million by march 2007, but we'll see. Written by Ric Hard on 2006/05/25
silverwolf you're right. What did happen to it being region free? Written by hyAxis (8) on 2006/05/25
Video format and region coding are different things. A PAL DVD can be encoded for region 1 and a NTSC DVD can be encoded for region 2.Or I might as well be wrong =) Written by optaviusx on 2006/05/25
I sorta know what you are trying to say hyaxis. The blu ray format in general might be region free, but most developers will make sure their game only works for a specific region. Written by Jon (35) on 2006/05/26
As I understand it the hardware must be region coded, PS3 games will be region free by including all region coding on each disk. Again I could be wrong. Recent Articles
