European Sales Of Sony's PlayStation 3 Delayed Until March >
2006/09/06 7:29:37: Posted by vividbreeze
This morning the executive in charge released a statement stating the sales delay is caused by a problem in mass producing a key component in the Blu-ray disc laser part of the machine, the next-generation successor to Sony Corp.'s hit PlayStation 2, Sony Computer Entertainment Chief Ken Kutaragi told reporters.

PRESS RELEASE

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3
No change in launch date for Japan and North America

London, Wednesday 6 September 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that it would revise the launch date of its PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007.

March dates for Japan and North America will remain the same, which are November 11th and November 17th respectively.

The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PLAYSTATION 3.

The previously announced PLAYSTATION 3 shipment forecast of 6 million units globally within the fiscal year ending 2007 is not changed.

Hah let the hate flow!!...

lol i wonder who didnt see this coming.

with the biggest growth potential, i would give europe special attention, not always throwing them to the side and crapping in their cherios.

but then again when has sony ever been known for conventional thinking?

I knew this was coming. I wonder if any other regions will be affected?

No problem for 360 owners there's enough coming out in the meantime like Gears Splintercell and Mass Effect but this will hurt sony even more and thats not good for gamers

btw, they're also cutting launch numbers .. 400k for USA and 100k for JDM with 2 million total for end of 2006.

Sucks to be in Europe ..but theres always eBay ..!!

people may complain about broken xbox 360, but at least microsoft follows through on what it says. So much for the global launch, huh sony? the ps3/360/wii generation of consoles, is just to early to hd media drives.
Written by ThatGuyOverThere (12) on 2006/09/06

hahah global launch indeed. I wondered how they were going to go back on that promise.. I mean, they've compromised on everything else, this was really all that was left.

Now comes round 2 of compromises.

I really do wonder if this delay will extend beyond Europe. Its stands to reason that they could be having the same problem w/ the US and Japanese machines too. This is not good for Sony, seems almost certain that they'll lose market share to MS and Nintendo because of this.

"people may complain about broken xbox 360, but at least microsoft follows through on what it says."

LMAO. You have GOTTA be kidding me. Follow through with launch shortage and dead on arrival xbox360s? Riiight.

And they were using DVDROMs.

nock, the problem isn't with the machine itself. It's just mass-production isn't going as well as planned. Hence the launch number cut.

Gotcha...still, I think this could cause problems for Sony; both in the short run and the long run. Those in Europe waiting for the PS3 to be released before choosing a system my not be willing to wait until March. It'll be interesting to see what happens w/ the European market share over the next year or so.

Also, and I say this at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, but didn't a Sony exec just last week say that they were on track for the November launch?
Written by VaeVictus on 2006/09/06

They are still launching in November. The comment itself is vague. As long as there isn't an outright delay worldwide (i.e. Japan, U.S.)then that statement is still true, at least that is how they will word it.
Written by nock on 2006/09/06

actually, the comment was that they would have no problem producing the promised amount of PS3 consoles for the launch date, which obviously isn't going to happen. And I'm not 100% sure that a worldwide delay isn't out of the picture yet.

Wow i just heard Sony is cutting the launch shipments by 75%. US gets 400,000 consoles...thats insane. I know PS2 released with only 500,000, and it still gained much success, but this is crazy.

Im sorry. News just came in that the US Sony Reps are saying that they are still sticking with the 2 million consoles for launch. Weird..Ken said 400,000 for the US but Sony US is still saying 2 million. WTF IS GOING ON lol

GAME OVER

The Xbox 360 is the fastest selling system ever in 40 of the 41 countries it has been released in. The Xbox 360 completely dominated the August, 2006, European Game Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Especially with the announcement that the Xbox 360 will be the ONLY place where European gamers will be able to play a next-generation Soccer game for TWELVE MONTHS that runs in high-definition video with true 5.1 digital sound!!!

The fact that Sony is going to miss the Christmas season in Europe is INCREDIBLE!!! Sony JUST DROPPED THE BALL; they JUST LOST!!!

By the way, Sony knew this was going to happen, because there were Japanese analysts saying this all along. YET ANOTHER SONY LIE!!!

Mitsubishi Securities recently announced that the Playstation 3 would only sell 3 million systems by March of 2007, due to production problems. The fact that Sony is STUPID enough to try and lie again, by saying that they will still reach their goal of 6 million by March of 2007, even though the system won't be released until then in Europe, and the distribution to North America and Japan has been reduced by 50% is just plain STUPID... How STUPID does Sony think people are???

We also learned that High-Definition cables will NOT be included in ANY version of the Playstation 3!!! The Xbox 360 Premium comes with a set of cables that can be used as both High-Definition Cables and standard-definition cables. This means that consumers will need to spend ANOTHER $40 for a set of PS3 Component Cables or another $99 for an HDMI cable. The Playstation 3 will actually cost consumers up to $700!!! MY GOD, the Playstation 3 is TERRIBLE!!!

TWO THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CHEAP Ebay Cables:

1. Ebay Cables may appear cheap at first, but if you look at the Shipping Cost, you will see that something that should cost about $3 is suddenly listed with a HUGE shipping cost of over $35. In other words, they make you think you did a good job bidding or purchasing the product, but they make ALL their money on the HUGE Shipping Costs!!!

2. Ebay Cables that are cheap like that are VERY low quality!!!

"the problem isn't with the machine itself. It's just mass-production isn't going as well as planned. Hence the launch number cut."

Itaintrite, I will give you credit no matter how much of the shaft Sony's giving, your still taking it in stride. Your fanboy Kung-Fu is top notch.

The problem is the machine, period. The only reason that we're not playing the PS3 right now is BluRay. Sony has sabotaged their system with the BD format and also sabotaged the stand alone BD players by hoarding all the diodes for the PS3.

Have they even started making the units yet?

Mike, you're really something. If you don't work for MS then you must be 10 years old.

By the way I got a "cheap" ebay VGA cable for my 360 and it works perfectly well on my 23" LCD. Just as good as the original. It only cost me $12 shipping included. Everyone knows how ebay works. I can guarantee you that you'll be able to get $12 PS3 HDMI cables too.

I'm all for supporting the 360, but you're really beyond annoying.

I guess I'll just do like everyone else and skip your posts until you finally disappear.
