GRAW Team Says PS3 Is Not Harder To Develop For >
2007/08/17 12:49:54: Posted by DM
The team behind GRAW, one of Ubisoft's most popular titles, has told GI that the PS3 is not harder to develop for. In fact, they claim that the system is no harder to work with than the Xbox360 was when it first came out. This should put to rest the age old "PS3 is harder to develop for" argument.

"It's wrong to say it's harder to code on the PlayStation 3, it's just something that needs to be learnt," said Yann Le Tensorer, co-founder of Ubisoft's Tiwak studio and co-creator of the Yeti engine powering GRAW and the upcoming Beowulf game.

You mean all those 360 fanboys may have been spreading baseless FUD? Who would have thunk it!
Written by daveydz3 on 2007/08/17

heh. I guess the question was why the PS3 version of GRAW 2 comes out way way way later than the one that came out for xbox 360, especially since they were suppose to come out at the same time, am I correct?

If they had almost all platforms in mind, what is the answer to that?
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/08/17

Did you even read what he said?

""It's wrong to say it's harder to code on the PlayStation 3, it's just something that needs to be learnt"

They've been developing games for Xbox360 for at least 1-2 years more than the PS3. THAT is why.
Written by Smarty Pantz on 2007/08/17

Someone send this memo to EA, pronto!
Written by daveydz3 on 2007/08/17

I did read what was said.

"Because we built the engine for this generation of hardware we've been very well placed – Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter hit that level of quality early in the cycle when the 360 first came out because we had our engine in mind for PS3, 360 and PC from the very beginning," he commented.

said they had the engine in mind for all platforms and the only reason GRAW hit the level of quality early was only because it came out first, but they already had the PS3 in mind

I wish developers would have 'learnt' the Sega Saturn. I loved that console.
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/17

Responses:

LordFlux and daveydz3 are 100% correct!

However, ironically, part of what Ubisoft says is true...BUT, it is CRUCIAL to remember EXACTLY what percentage of CURRENT game developers have the necessary skill to program for Parallel Processing systems like the Sega Saturn and Playstation 3, at THIS POINT in time!

The Key Factor is what Sega's Yu Suzuki said: "Less than 1% of developers have the necessary skill to program videogames in a parallel processing environment."
Written by madgunde on 2007/08/17

Those developers that actually take the time to learn parallel processing environments are richly rewarded with nearly limitless potential. Those are the kinds of games I want to play. I'm not interested in games from developers who aren't committed to investing in the future.
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/17

Basically, what Ubisoft is saying is, "It isn't harder to type 50 words per minute than it is 30 words per minute, it just has to be 'learnt.'"

It could also be interpreted as, "It isn't harder to bench-press 100 pounds than it is 50 pounds, it just has to be 'learnt.'"

Or, "It isn't any harder to write in cursive than it is to write in manuscript; it just has to be 'learnt.'"

The HUGE PROBLEM that these developers aren't taking into consideration is the FACT that "Learning," takes TIME!!!

The HUGE PROBLEM that these developers aren't taking into consideration is the FACT that when over 99% of programmers are NOT taught how to program for the PS3 in school, but their lessons CAN be applied to the PC and Xbox 360.

This means that developers ONLY gain "lessons," programming for the PS3 through "Experience," similar to what happened with the Sega Saturn...In other words, "VERY FEW people actually 'learn,' anything over the course of time, because they are placed on other assignments."

The proof is in the pudding...Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 was supposed to be released simultaneously for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but it STILL is not released for Playstation 3!!!!!!!

If these developers at Ubisoft had actually released the game simultaneously, then it would be logical to believe what they say. However, their words are basically mean, "It isn't any more difficult to typ one-million words per minute than it is to type five words per minute; it just has to be 'learnt.'"

I think this particular developer needs to "learn," that lessons like that are "learned."

And I think that this mans words are NOT being listened to by the executives at Ubisoft, because the executives have made it clear that ONLY the Xbox 360 and PC have the technical abilities to handle Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Written by sticky on 2007/08/17

what the fuck does yu suzuki know about programming? whens the last time he made a game that was any good. f$#^ off old man and sit in ur outrun machine then die.

krogan: stfu dude ur so biased about everything im sure ull get a brain wasting disease before ur 50.

good on ubisoft for putting the lame developers in their place. if you cant stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen and be left in the past.

Response to madgunde:

With all due respect--Are you a blind lemming or something!!!

Examine what you just said:

(1) The only two systems in the last two decades that used "Parallel Processing" are the Sega Saturn and Playstation 3. Both of those systems had BY FAR the LOWEST installed base of users in their generation!

In other words, the "Rewards," you speak of are NOT there at this point in time, and they won't be anytime soon!

(2) I agree that developers who learn "Parallel Processing" are rewarded with a lot of potential...but guess what; they are hired by companies like IBM and NASA who pay a LOT more than videogame companies!

Parallel Processing is meant to be used when THOUSANDS of computers are hooked together to make up for a lack of individual computer power. And that is where the true skill is applied!

But we won't see Parallel Processing used for videogames in a successful way, because over 99% of programmers in this industry are not going to waste time gathering that form of experience, when they could use LESS TIME to earn MORE MONEY making games for the PC and Xbox 360!

(3) madgunde, you say, "Those are the games I want to play."

You are making a reference to something that THE Xbox 360 HAS HAD FOR NEARLY A YEAR!!! But the Playstation 3 STILL does NOT have!!!

madgunde, it is BEST to be interested in games for BOTH the PRESENT in addition to the FUTURE!!! The Xbox 360 offers BOTH, but the Playstation 3 does NOT!!!

And let me explain things further:

When the point of time known as "the future," eventually gets here for the Playstation 3...it will represent a point in time that the Xbox 360 has been calling "the present," for a long time!

In fact, by the time "the future," is reached by the PS3, the Xbox 360 will be calling it "the past."

Proof: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2...in addition to many others, such as Rainbow Six: Vegas, and many others.

madgunde, if you don't understand that, then I think you might have travelled to close to a black-hole, perhpaps by accident. You are stranded in the Event Horizon, which causes you to see the Playstation 3 as a normal game system...while everyone else who lives in the REAL part of the universe has seen that the Playstation 3 has been destroyed for quite a while now.

I guess another way of saying this is to say:

"Everyone else (over 99% of developers in the industry) say that the Playstation 3 IS DEFINITELY much more time consuming, much more difficult, and much more expensive to develop games for than the Xbox 360 is!

Proof: The games!
Written by LordFlux on 2007/08/17

Well from what I hear, Sony is improving the SDK. But truely, the PS3 is a beast of a machine... it's just a matter of harnessing that power. Maybe one day we'll get to see it's potential... and with the amount of money that Sony is putting behind it, I imagine one day we'll see it. Too bad Sega didn't have those deep pockets... hated to see their hardware division fade. (the ramblings of a long-time Sega fan)
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/17

LordFlux:

I know where you're coming from; I liked Sega, too. But believe it or not, it doesn't cost much money to improve development resources.

The truly crucial factor is to actually design a piece of hardware that isn't difficult to work with in the first place. Unfortunately, Sony has failed to achieve that goal with the Playstation 3, just like Sega failed with the Saturn.
Written by sticky on 2007/08/17

krogan: stfu, u know nothing about coding so what the hell are you talking about? u cant just throw money at coders and say now u know how to code for ps3. go back to playing bioshock. oh wait, i forgot u dont have it. im on a bioshock break right now. for anyone else playing it, do u save those little girls or kill them? the big daddies are cool - unlike my 360 hahahah
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/17

Sky (sticky),

I actually know more than you think about C, C+, C++, and Assembly...don't be so fast to judge people.

It isn't just a matter of "DirectX vs OpenGL."

It is a matter of the Playstation 3 with two arms (CPU Threads) trying to juggle six balls (SPE sub-processors). That is a VERY DIFFICULT thing to "learnt."

With the Xbox 360, the situation is 100% reversed by 180 degrees. Xbox 360 has six arms (CPU Threads) that only need to juggle two balls (CPU and GPU functions).

THAT is the reason why Xbox 360 games are always optimized to achieve a higher level of performance than Playstation 3 games.
Written by Deihmos on 2007/08/17

Developers say these kind of things to hype their games. Did you expect them to say it was hard to work on and not sell any games?
Written by sticky on 2007/08/17

Sky (krogan),

That shit you are talking is recycled garbage you have read on a website somewhere. You know C, oh i bow down to you, fuck off. Kids are being taught c c+ and c++ at school these days, does that give them the right to be biased assholes like you? dont even pretend you have a clue what is going on cos you simply just dont.

Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/17

As usual, the PS3 fanboy (Sky) is being immature, and even accusing others of being himself...PATHETIC.

Sky, the fact that "even kids are being taught C at school these days," is the EXACT reason why the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade are receiving SO MUCH support from Third-Party developers, and even freelance game developers.

ANYONE can start programming Xbox Live Arcade games using the inexpensive development kit! "Kids" familiar with C and C+, are already creating great games!

Ya see, Sky (sticky, Fair and Unbalanced Tech Teacher, MiiWiiWiiControl), you are living in a world where important facts don't matter.

Now...run along blind lemming...Sony failed to design a system that was easy to design games for, and now they are suffering the consequences. That is something they will pay the price for during this entire generation...don't blame EA--AND EVERYONE ELSE--for not being able to work with the PS3...blame Sony for not designing a system that developers are familiar with!

Now, sticky (Sky), I smell fresh water from that water fall over there...if you live when you follow Sony over the cliff, I will be happy to help you back up.
Written by Cryos on 2007/08/17

Krogan,

Are you really trying to suggest that there was no learning curve for the developers from the x-box, to the 360? you state "99% of programmers are NOT taught how to program for the PS3 in school". well guess what, they're not taught how to program for the 360 either. you know why? because of how fast things change. (i.e. I'm learning Adobe CS3. when I graduate, they will be beyond that)

So...... schools teach HOW to program, theories, procedures, OOP. things of that nature, so when you get out there, learning a new program (or an update to an existing program) isn't as time consuming.

There is a learning curve for ALL programming developments.

btw, I'm still waiting on your answer to my questions.
Written by sticky on 2007/08/17

Nice post Cryos, but to be honest talking about programming to someone like Krogan is a lost cause. If you want to talk about not being able to afford ALL of the systems out there and having to attack other peoples game consoles just so that he can get satisfaction then he is your man.
Written by Jagosix on 2007/08/17

Hello Fellow Gamers. What's the difference between Sony & Microsoft. M$ is a Software company & Sony is a hardware company. Microsoft will always have an advantage in the software department. 90% of the computers in the world use M$ Windows or some type of M$ software. Visual Studio, Visual C, C sharp, XNA, etc..Are all products of M$ & nearly all programmers develops programs & games using their software. What this means is that M$ will always have better development kits than most any developers out there.

Do any of remember the XNA contest that M$ was holding. These ordinary programmers (the world over) entered into this contest. They had a time limit to come up with the BEST game that they could create. Well.. long story short, The winners were rewarded with a nice chunk of change & a XBLA publishing contract (which means even more $$$$). Now has either Sony nor Nintendo every offered anything like that for their consoles? Uuuuhhhmm..no.

Just think, a person with a pc & a passion to create a great game can do it. They don't need hundreds of people with millions of dollars. They can do it right in their own home. All using M$ software. Now again does Sony or Nintendo offer anything like that? No they don't.

SO now we have a development platform so simple a caveman can do it.

Written by sticky on 2007/08/17

if a caveman can do it there is hope for arthur56k of making a game. good luck arthur! if u need help with your code ask your best pal Krogan (Sky) to debug it, he knows c, c+ and c++ you know. yes, dont be so quick to judge him ok? pair of lezzys.

Sticky: Did U come up with that name after you had to wipe all that Sony manchoder from your face????? As much as Krogan defends the 360 you do the same thing with the PS3. They are both good consoles. Both hard to develop for. Yes the 360 has the head start in development time, and has the better development tools, plus with XNA PC/360 cross platform devlopment is made much easier. I am sure the PS3 will become easier to develop for over time. But then aghain so will the 360. I already pwn a 360 and plan to purchase a PS3 some time nest year after the price has dropped again and after some of the AAA Sony only titles are out. I have almost given up trying to prove which console is better. I have decided both consoles are good. Hell I even plan to get a Wii once MarioKart comes out. It's just going to be really hard for me to look at last generation graphics...

Please excuse my spelling and typos. I'm tired. PS360 F*CK the Wii
Written by sticky on 2007/08/18

i dont defend the ps3, theres lots of things i hate about it. one of them is that i need to pay for the games unlike 360. haha

Written by MiiWiiWiiControl on 2007/08/18

@sticky your above comment don't make sense.

@Krogan I'm not sky stop calling me sky. Like Pimpdaddy I'm staying away from the debates about which console is better even though we all know in the end Ps3 is going to come out on top.

Funny thing Krogan you want gamers to look at you as unbaised and you seem to have all the answers for MS, but when I ask tough questions you don't give straight answer you dance around them but at the same time your critize Sony's PR for doing just that. This time next year Sony is going to kick ass once these devs get their heads around the developement phase. This time next year the 360 is still going to be bricking.
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/18

he has a modded 360, that is what he says, and its online too, thought that MS was banning modded 360's from live

it may be bricking, the older versions that is, hope they can get the newer versions to be more reliable
Written by MiiWiiWiiControl on 2007/08/18

@Arthur56k .There is a hack MS has not banned yet. But I can't give you the details I'll get banned for it. Regardless arthur56 thats besides the point. You need to get High speed Internet and up to XBL before you defend it.

When your brick you'll be wishing you had a PS3 to watch blu-ray movies (while your 360 is being repaired) and play exclusive titles plus free internet.
Written by madgunde on 2007/08/18

Krogan, you are the blind lemming. I'm playing the games on my PS3 right now, AND I have even more advanced games to look forward to in the future. Best part? I don't have to worry about my PS3 dying on me, and I save money to boot because I don't have to pay for online play (something I'd have to do on the 360) and I get all the features I WANT for less money than what it would cost to buy a 360. You see, I WANT reliability, HD graphics, WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, BlueTooth, Blu-Ray, Wireless rechargeable controllers, memory card slots, user upgradeable hard drives, the ability to use any USB storage device (including hard drives). Most of all, I want a gaming console that is 100% free of Microsoft Windows lock-in.

The 360 can't offer me many of those things and the things it can offer me, will cost me much more than what the PS3 costs. So unless you think you're in a position to dictate to me what I want, you really have no response, because you know I'm right. Only the PS3 satisfies my wants. I suspect many PS3 owners want the same things as I do, which is why they bought a PS3 as well. So face it, people who have higher expectations for what they want in a console buy a PS3. People with lower expectations get a 360, because you HAVE to have lower expectations to be OK with buying a console that has a major known defect from a company that is known for locking people into their crappy OS, and OVERCHARGES for every little accessory you'd have to buy to make their defective console even a bit on-par for what you get standard in the PS3, all the while deluding yourself into thinking you saved money, when in fact you didn't.

Welcome to the Microsoft way, they've been doing it for over 30 years.
Written by sticky on 2007/08/18

yeah i havent been caught cos i got the latest drive firmware. my last 360 got banned from live but i just bought a new 360, swapped out my old one for the new one in the box and took it back to walmart. it was flashing 3 red lights pretty often also. hahah screw u walmart and m$! if my ps3 starts doing the same itll get the same treatment. i aint using any of the sony hacks tho, i respect the ps3 more cos its a way better built machine and it cost less than my 360 did, thats right fan boys, it cost less for the ps3 than the 360 when u rule everything in. everything right down the recharge batteries, usb cable, wifi, cooler fan attachment, live subscription etc, all things that come with the ps3.
Written by Jagosix on 2007/08/18

HFG. madgunde - WTH does any of the features on the pS3 have to with the programming? I thought this topic was about the ability to program for the PS3 vs. X360. regardless of how you feel about M$, the FACT is that they dominate in the computer, software, programming world. They have the BEST SDK for consoles period. Also M$ just proved that anyone with a passion for programming can make a great game from their own home. Again has SONY or Nintendo provided the home user with these types of tools to have anyone create their very own game ? No..

Now you want to compare the features.. hhmm.... online play. How many PS3 games have online integration ? Not many if any. ALL X360 games have to have the online features built in as a STANDARD. Sony says "it's up to the 3rd party companies". Which means a lot of games aren't going to have some sort of online play or features. Now you bitch & moan about paying a measly $4.17 monthly xblive fee. Dude, I bet you spend more than that on junk food per day. So.. please that's old.

Don't have to worry about your ps3 dying on you? What imaginary world do live in that nothing dies or breaks down? Everything man made eventually dies. Hell we die too. So that point is moot. The expectation I want in a console.. I already have in my X360. I had a PS3 & returned it. It offered me nothing compared to my X360. I mean everybody has his/her own taste in consoles & games. That's why we have freedom of choice. I'm glad you like your PS3. I like my X360. So what of it?.

The GAMES are what really matter & the features in those games that are exclusive to the console only. Right now the X360 offers the BEST games & features. Not the PS3 nor the Wii. One day they Will offer the same features as the X360 (one can only hope). Until then I'll just stick with my X360.

Response to madgunde:

Xbox Live Gold subscribers may pay $4 a month, but they actually SAVE money because of their Xbox Live Diamond card!!!

Example: The Xbox Live Diamond lets you save 10% off of all online purchases from Target over $70. So, I made sure to purchase All-Pro Football 2K8 and NCAA Football 2008 at the same time...as a result, I saved $12.

I also saved 10% off of Madden 2008, and the order I made for Two Worlds, and Bioshock. That added up to an additional $18 in savings.

That means this month, thanks to my Xbox Live Gold membership, I saved a total of $30 on my Xbox 360 games.

madgunde, when $4 is subtracted from $30, that means my Xbox Live Gold membership SAVED ME $26!!!

I am GLAD to be a member of Xbox Live!!! And I see more and more people using their Xbox Live Diamond cards all the time.

Just go to hxxp://www.xboxlivediamond.com to look at all the cool stuff associated with the Xbox Live Diamond card.

Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/18

madgunde,

In case you haven't noticed...the Xbox 360 software is VASTLY superior to the Playstation 3!!!

Just look at simple games like Tony Hawk Skating and Virtua Tennis 3, to more advanced games like Rainbow Six: Vegas and Virtua Fighter 5. The Xbox 360 versions of the games are BETTER!!!

madgunde, I certainly hope you don't want "Online Play," in great games like Virtua Fighter 5 or Virtua Tennis 3... because the Playstation 3 versions of those games do NOT offer those features, like the Xbox 360 versions DO!

madgunde, I certainly hope you don't want the ability to have a controller that rumbles, because PS3 does NOT offer that basic feature.

And I certainly hope you don't want your games to run in high-definition if you are one of the MILLIONS of people with a 1080i HDTV set, because PS3 does NOT upconvert actual PS3 games, like Xbox 360 does with Xbox 360 games. So, on a 1080i HDTV set, you actually see PS3 games in low-resolution 480p.

And I certainly hope that Online Voice Chat in games like Call of Duty, F.E.A.R., and Madden are not important to you, because the Playstation 3 versions do NOT offer those features! But the Xbox 360 versions DO offer those features.

And I certainly hope you want to wait one-half of a second to receive the Snap from the Center in Madden Football 2008...because the Playstation 3 version experiences LAG that is TERRIBLE, since it "Struggles to run at 30 frames per second at 720p resolution."

The Xbox 360 version of Madden runs smoothly at 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution, as we all know...that is why even USA Today rated the Xbox 360 version a 9 out of 10, and the PS3 version only a 7 out of 10.

And the Playstation 3 doesn't have ANYTHING that will be rated as high as Bioshock!!!

Bioshock for the Xbox 360 has a chance to be the highest rated game EVER!!!

madgunde, if you want the BEST GAMES, with the BEST PERFORMANCE, made up of the BEST GRAPHICS, and the BEST ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, and the BEST ONLINE PERFORMANCE, then the Xbox 360 is the BEST SYSTEM.

Response to incoming00:

The Xbox Live Diamond card is really an AWESOME way to save money!!!

It isn't just about saving money on videogames, you can save money on EVERYTHING!!!

I went to Ace Hardware and bought $80 in paint supplies, and I saved $15!!!

Just go to the website www.xboxlivediamond.com or call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and tell them you didn't get your card. They will get you a new one. Then you can start saving a LOT of money, and receiving financial benefits for being an Xbox Live Gold subscriber!

hey makaveli, yeah ive heard but to be honest going to the bother of modding a console that will break in a few months isnt viable for me. ill just keep doing what ive been doing, on my 3rd xbox. 1 broke one got caught, lets see how this one goes.

responce to Krogan:

you are a cunt, stfu. bioshock is a good game cos of the game, nothing to do with the 360. itll be just as good on the ps3. ur a hater not a gamer and i hate u for that.
Written by sticky on 2007/08/18

also just so everyone knows the 360 version of bioshock is being SLATED as having SHIT graphics next to the PC version, so my advice is skip the 360 version and go straight to the PC version for now. Hopefully the PS3 version will have full mouse and keyboard support like the PC version does, if it does it will be VASTLY superior to the 360 VERSION!

[link removed]

who wants to use a gamepad when u can use mouse and keyboard? ill answer that one , people who dont have a choice, people who only have a 360.

"it was on SALE, so I bought 2 so I could save $15." lmao

You'd save more by not buying both! I mean really, how many football games (shoes) do you need?

Krogan, I really can't have you spreading any of your lies. The PS3 can display in ANY resolution from 480p up to 1080p, which is something the 360 can't do (maxes out at 1080i)

@Cryos your right about Krogan, your absolutely right, In Marketing School you learn not to acknowledge anything good about the competition and/or anything negative towards your own product.

I’m glad to see Ubisoft, is publicly trying to let other developers know it just takes a little time to know the system and they can/and will achieve their creative goals.

OOOH Krogan, I can play this game too! The PS3 version of Oblivion is better than the 360 version. The PS3 version of DiRT is better than the 360 version. The PS3 version of The Darkness is better than the 360 version. The PS3 version of Stranglehold comes with an HD edition of Hard Boiled, the 360 doesn't because it's stuck with last-gen DVD. The PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will be better than the 360 version.

Stop spreading your lies. Most PS3 games have online play, and at no extra cost too.

Cryos:

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about!!!

The Xbox 360 can use HDMI, VGA, and Component cables to send resolution signals up to 1080p for videogames.

Due to copyright laws, Component cables can only carry signals up to 1080i for HD-DVD or Blu-ray movies. But, the Xbox 360 can still use HDMI or VGA cables to send a 1080p HD-DVD signal to a 1080p HDTV...not that it matters, because the difference between 1080i and 1080p is virtually unnoticable, unless you are looking at TV's larger than 60".

Cryos, you NEED to understand that the Xbox 360 now Upconverts EVERY Xbox 360 game all the way up to 1080p. Virtually all Xbox 360 games have Native Resolutions of 720p and 1080i, and they are easily Upconverted to 1080p.

Cryos, you also NEED to understand that the Playstation 3 does NOT have a Resolution Upconversion chip inside its hardware! The Playstation 3 does NOT have the ability to Upconvert resolutions to 1080p.

The ONLY way the PS3 can display 1080p resolution is if that is the Native Resolution of the game. For example, Virtua Tennis 3 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 were both released with Native Resolutions of 1080p.

Cryos, like I said, virtually all Xbox 360 games have Native Resolutions of both 720p and 1080i, and even if they only had one or the other it wouldn't matter, because the Xbox 360 hardware has a chip dedicated to Upconverting resolution.

But the overwhelming majority of Playstation 3 games have a Native Resolution of only 720p. This means that if you have an HDTV set with a Native Resolution of 1080i, then you will NOT see those Playstation 3 games in high-definition!!! You will only see your PS3 games in low-resolution!!!

The PS3 will try and send the 720p signal to the 1080i HDTV set, but the HDTV will not accept it. PS3 will not be able to change the signal to 1080i, so the HDTV set will Downconvert the resolution to only 480p.

That causes your PS3 games to be seen in LOW-RESOLUTON!!!

That is a FACT!!!

****

And by the way, it turns out the Xbox 360 version of Bioshock is BETTER than the PC version! The Xbox 360 version of Bioshock does NOT have Widescreen problems that the PC version currently has. The graphics in the Xbox 360 version are absolutely incredible!!!

Now that Bioshock is available, these things are known and 100% confirmed. The Xbox 360 version of Bioshock is AWESOME...it is worth of all the perfect scores it received!!!

Bioshock is a "Microsoft Exclusive" game that can only be played on the Xbox 360 console, or PC Games for Windows. Either way, Microsoft gets your money.

madgunde,

The Xbox 360 version of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, is rated higher than the Playstation 3 version.

madgunde, do you understand that the 1UP editor who rated Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, has over 200 hours experience playing the different versions of the game?

madgunde, seriously, what part of the review did you not understand when the editor with over 200 hours expeience said, "If you own a PC, an Xbox 360, and a Playstation 3, the 'LEAST DESIRABE' version of Oblivion is the Playstation 3 version."

madgunde, when the editor says that the Playstation 3 version of Oblivion is the "LEAST DESIRABLE," it means that the Playstation 3 version offers the WORST performance and is the LAST ONE you would want to play!

Krogan, do you ever have ANY idea of what you're talking about? Do you even HAVE a PS3? i'd guess not seeing as how you can manually change what output setting the PS3 has.

Also, i'd like to know where you are getting this information. Because, as you say, you ALWAYS cite your sources.

The fact is that upconverting is a cheap way to claim to have HD quality. But to have a TRUE HD experience, the native resolution must be HD.

BTW, how much do you get paid, because I'm looking for a job.

Cryos:

Let me explain something to you:

Just because you can set the resolution of the Playstation 3 to display at 1080i or 1080p does NOT mean that the games actually are displayed at that resolution.

When you have a 1080p HDTV set, the 720p images of the PS3 games are not upconverted, but they are magnified by the television to display on-screen in the appropriate way. There is a difference, though, because magnification without upconversion results in a loss of quality.

Cryos, one of the best examples of the Playstation 3 having the type of resolution problems I am referring to is with the newly released Rainbow Six: Vegas. In fact, Rainbow Six actually has worse problems than I described before. Rainbow Six actually tries to have a built in 1080i mode, in addition to the standard 720p mode, but even when the PS3 tries it still fails...even more miserably than if it would have resulted in a Downconversion to 480p, like the other 720p Native Resolution PS3 games.

The resolution problems are so bad that even if you have a 1080p HDTV set, you STILL need to go and MANUALLY change the Resolution of the PS3 to 720p, EVERY TIME you play the game...unless you want to have resolution problems, which I doubt you do.

One of the PS3 firmware updates makes it so your PS3 resolution is automatically changed to 1080i output when a game like Rainbow Six: Vegas is inserted, because Rainbow Six: Vegas is one of the few games that also included a 1080i mode, in addition to the 720p mode. But the 1080i mode is a false one, since the PS3 does NOT have the ability to truly Upconvert images, like the Xbox 360 does. As a result, you end up with a very poor looking image that isn’t as good as the 720p mode.

Consequently, you are FORCED to MANUALLY go to the menu of the PS3 and change the resolution settings, just for certain games like Rainbow Six: Vegas…And when you are done playing games like that, then you need to go back and change the resolution to the setting you previously had it set for. That is OBVIOUSLY very ANNOYING and very PATHETIC!!! That is a HUGE technological disappointment.

And by the way, you should know that I have several friends who own 1080i HDTV sets...there are MILLIONS of HDTV sets with 1080i resolution. EVERY type of CRT Picture-Tube, and CRT Projection HDTV set has a resolution of 1080i, and there are LOTS of Plasma HDTV sets sold by longtime industry leaders such as Panasonic and Hitachi with Native Resolutions of 1080i.

I cite my sources, Cryos, so please make sure and remember that I answered your question, threw in additional information for other potential questions, and provided multiple references...

I would say that it was, "All in a days work," but, I'm not being "paid," to do anything. I am just a big fan of videogames who does a lot of studying and reading.

Krogan, I'm glad to see that you're citing sources, however, you're reading the information wrong. (big suprise)

If you'd read more in depth, the actual article states that this is a problem for TVs that don't support 720p. (tvs that support 480i, 480p, and 1080i)

If that is the case, THEN it goes down to 480p (not everytime as you suggest)

I find Tom Clancy games to be slow, unimaginitive, and poorly made, so IMO, using that as the barometer for PS3 quality of games doesn't work.

Again, this is only a problem if your tv doesn't support 720p, in which case, your resolution for your PS3 is probably set lower, anyway.
