Moore Says Xbox360 External HD-DVD For Movies Only >
2006/01/05 19:17:44: Posted by DM
Peter Moore has made a statement that the external HD-DVD add on for Xbox360 will be used to play movies only, there are no game planned. Also, there are no plans to make a new model of Xbox360 with the HD-DVD drive included as the main disk reader. Now, MS has lied to us before, but Moore must have seen the huge uproar the announcement caused, and wanted to quell some fears. Let's hope it stays true.

I'm bout to freaking kill Microsoft why, not games too, that's why PS3 games going to be waaaay longer than 360's games,I knew My Dumba** should of waited to get an PS3,Sh@&%(*!

To me, it seems this statement is only to ensure consumers continue to buy the existing units on the market and not to wait for the next Xbox 360 model. If the HD-DVD drive is truly not going to be used for future games, then why even make it for use with the Xbox 360? I imagine later in the life of the 360, when HD-DVD movies take hold, there will be a special edition with an internal HD-DVD drive.

That is the most moronic thing I have heard today. I don't think I even want to take the effort to explain why.

One word for QuestimElite. Compression. That's all that matters. The amount of data a disc can hold means nothing on the length of games. Most of the room could be taken up with FMVs, and I doubt there will be a lack of games with FMV cutscenes.

They don't need it for games the 360's compression is simply amazing.

In response to optaviusx, compression isn't something exclusive. The same (or similiar) data compression algorithms can be applied to any platform or computer.

For QuestimElite, TaiZ is exactly right that you can't correlate raw storage to game "length". Obviously you can fit more content on larger discs, but as Microsoft stated, with improved data compression algorithms, they feel that DVD9 will have sufficient storage space.
