Another month, another pre-release PS3 firmware update feature list. This is the rumored list of changes that will be included in the 2.0 firmware update for PS3. Rumor mill, of course, but none of the changes seem earth-shattering. Check it for yourself.

sounds awesome! i cant wait.

I always love installing the PS3 firmware updates. It's like Christmas! In-game XMB with friends list and messaging will be a boon. Sucks having to leave a game just to read a message you received.
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/08/16

Awesome news! More features for the PS3 :) Sure makes the 360 look like a piece of last-gen hardware doesn't it?

Anyway, keep rating 360 fanboys.
Written by SupremeChaotic on 2007/08/16

Wow, the PS3 is finally getting something that Xbox 360 has had for over two and a half years...

Sure is taking Sony a while to catch up, eh?
Written by Cryos on 2007/08/16

maybe it's taking them a while to catch up with the software, but I'd rather that then what M$ is doing with the hardware!
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/08/16

SurpremeChaotic, you lost all credibility when you said that the 360 has been out for over two and a half years. Xbox360 launched in Nov 05.

Anyhow, its great news that they're reducing the memory usage of the XMB more and more. This will result in more resources for actual game content :) Now even the 7th SPU will be freed :)

Ive never understood why playing music from your console during game play has been such a popular request.. just turn on your stereo.. hook it up to your mp3 player.
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/16

Itaintrite:

EVERYTHING listed for the Playstation 3 here is something that the Xbox 360 has had since it was released!!!

The reason Supreme Chaotic probably said 2.5 years ago is because of the fact that even during pre-release beta-tests Xbox Live actually had these features that Playstation 3 STILL DOES NOT HAVE!!!

The one particular rumor about the PS3 OS RAM requirements being lowered is almost certainly false. I say that because it would cause compatibility conflicts with games/hardware.

Think about it: not everyone has access to the Internet. Even if Sony were to include that particular update in future Playstation 3 systems, there are still over TWO MILLION Playstation 3 systems collecting dust on store shelves right now!!! What about the people who can't get online to get the firmware update??? Where does that leave them.

And by the way, even if that RUMOR does end up being true, that only makes it so the PS3 is "equal," to the Xbox 360 in that area...which basically means that the PS3 will be where the Xbox 360 has been for years.

And I hate to be the one to tell you this (well, actually, I enjoy it), but when one game system (Xbox 360) has been at the Finish-Line for such a long time, and the other system (PS3) is only now getting there...That means the Xbox 360 finished in First Place and has gotten its Medal by now!!!

But don't worry...IF, IF, IF, Someday, One day, 10 years from now, ect... Just stop the nonsense and admit that the PS3 is playing BIGTIME catch-up!!!

Crossing the finish line AFTER your competitor is NOT a good thing!
Written by silverwolf on 2007/08/16

"That means the Xbox 360 finished in First Place and has gotten its Medal by now!!! LOL..... Does the medal happen to have three red rings around it?

Written by kidkit on 2007/08/16

Krogan.. regarding the change in reserved memory - any game that took advantage of the change would have to have the latest firmware on the disc. Sound familiar? Xbox did it too. It's not an issue.
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/16

they will never be able to probably implement the memory lowering just because therev will always be a huge percentage of gamers who will never hook their consoles online, what happens to them, plus a developer will always work to satisfy all consumers
Written by Cryos on 2007/08/16

ummm..... guys? you can download the firmware update to a flash drive and then install it on the system. You guys forget about that?
Written by sticky on 2007/08/16

arthur56k: Sony has included firmware updates with games in the past. Both for the PSP and PS3. What makes you think that this is going to change? or did you just not know that this was done?
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/16

how many poeple actually do that, i have the 360 and i havent bothered getting any update to date, and i know they exist, how much more for the casual gamer who doesnt visit game sites or even have that onformation, call it as it is, it may look like a good move, but it aint feasible

sticky, if you mean they are going to sell whole copies to every gamer out there, then well and good, but they cannot cover every gamer out there, and there lies my point, how many poeple have motorstorm, slightly over a million, genji, RFoM, do the math, it isnt as feasible as you would like me to beleive, plus i know of guys who have the PSP, did they get any of these updates, not that i know of, not feasible unless they want to mess uo some gamers

arthur56k: if sony want everyone to have this firmware they could simply request it to be added to every game released in the next year. if someone has a ps3 not hooked to the net and not buying new games i hardly think anyone is concerned about them having the latest firmware, the person probably least concerned would be the ps3 user. whats so hard to understand about this?
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/16

again not feasible, they have a firmware update coming out every month, or every other month, what are the chances that i will buy a game that has one update and not the other, what are the chances that they will put up every firmware update that has been there to date on every game, the chances are zero, that is why in my opinion the move isnt feasible
Written by Jagosix on 2007/08/16

Hello Fellow Gamers. Is the PS3 Finally getting custom in game music? Even though this feature was available since the original Xbox1, I hope they get this right.

Smarty Pantz - What sense does that make? "Hook it up to your stereo & put in your mp3 player?" Get real. Not every-1 has a mp3 player. Besides, if you already have a X360 or PS3 it's already your mp3 music player. Why not take full advantage of consoles.

The in game music feature alone was the main reason that I obtained a Xbox/X360. The music can also be streamed from your computer via network. No mp3 player has the storage capacity of a 500GB pc Hard Drive (yet). There're so many different ways to utilize that feature (usb, MMC, SD, etc).

in closing, I hope the PS3 users enjoy the IGM feature that us Xbox/X360 users been enjoying for years. It will make the games much more enjoyable.

@ arthur: Wrong, Sony does the firmware updates via software all of the time on the PSP. It's a requirement to d/l to play the title. It's not that hard to implement at all.

Hopefully Bill Gates nuts are ok from all the riding that you and Krogan give them.
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/16

but do they have all the updates on all the software?????

as i said i know guys who own the handheld, i dont own one, and i said i haven't yet seen any of them get an update, if you read a bit more you would understand more, problem is that you dont, and yes they get games very often for the PSP,

keep the discussion civil, we had some thing great going up there, and no need to be vulgar, just showed you that there isnt a thing you can prove, keep trying, and dude no one said that there were no updates

keep trying one of these days yyou may have a fast one on me, but not today
Written by TheGemCityBoss on 2007/08/16

what planet to you live in that you think "because I don't have the internet they're not going to update it without me" That's like me saying "I spent 600 dollars for my 60gb they can't drop the price without refunding me, the difference" Come on Sony don't care about you or me. Microsoft neither. Sony software deficient Microsoft Hardware deficient pick your poison
Written by Fair and Balanced Tech Teacher on 2007/08/16

Sorry, you proved me wrong how? Oh yeah, that's right, you didn't.
Written by incoming00 on 2007/08/16

@ arthur56k

sorry to jump in outta nowhere in your conversation, but my friend has a PSP and most(keyword) of his games have software updates implemented on the disc. one game that i know for sure has it is GtA Liberty City Stories.

most of the games that need an update has the firmware version needed to play. they may not have all the updates, but they have the one needed to play.
Written by MAKAVELI_ on 2007/08/16

I truly belive that sony can and should re program their memory requirements for xbm. Like was said before , it will not be an issue at all , since all the new games ( that take part of extra memory) could include the required Update.

@@@@ Krogan a.k.a UTP , X of 360 etc....(50+ more)!!!

I shouldn’t even lose my time with you but just answer to this:

How the f@ck do you know that the update will cause culpability issues , you cunt????

Are you the 007 of Microsoft are you???? are you spying on Kutaragi's office???

Give me a break , will ya??

p.s - im sorry for the language , that guy just get into my nerves.

Wow, u guys love to fight over anything. Its just a rumored firmware update list people.
Written by CianMCL on 2007/08/16

@jagosix

if ur playin mgs2: substance on the xbox of any game with good music ala halo as solerian_scientist says is his favourite why would you want to play your own music it only works best with sports game eg tony hawk, madden, pes, fifa.

Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/08/16

CianMCL, I own both of the Halo soundtrack CDs, and I also have Halo music on my Cell Phone as a ring-tone!

It is AWESOME!!!

And the race of aliens in Mass Effect, called the Salarians, the intelligent people who virtually put an end to my race of "Krogan" people, have been liberated, because I reached an out of court settlement with Ziff Davis Corporation (the owner of 1up) in a way that forced 1UP to publicly point out that I am NOT employed by Microsoft.

Nuff said in that area.
Written by MAKAVELI_ on 2007/08/16

u didnt anwsered to my kestion yet , krogan? ...got owned already lollll
Written by tdizzly on 2007/08/16

I read online that apparently there's some weird "viral marketer" from MS on this website? I thought Bill stopped that sort of business when he cheated IBM...anyone know who that guy is?
Written by sticky on 2007/08/16

ARTHUR56K PROVED WRONG AGAIN!!! HAHAHAHAHA IDIOT.

"in my opinion the move isnt feasible" hahahah so funny. again, IDIOT!
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/17

where on earth was i wrong, imn as much as i agree with what every one has to say, the feasibilty and poeple saying that it is going to be out on all consoles is in my opinion wrong, if they can pull it off well and good, but look at it this way, if i want to get the updates at this point and time, i have to go to the net, if i dont, i dont get it, same applies to MS, think ive made that clear

incoming i agree, but the same thing applies in software, chances are that i may go on and get games that are without the updates, unless you can assure me that all the games have all the updates

@sticky, keep trying, your not yet there, i have put my opinion up there and tried to back it up with my reasons, and i have said this numerous times, i may not be right all the time, but i dont troll, e.g. there are over 4 mil ps3 consoles out there, last time i checked 1.5 mil were on PSN, there is a good number that may have uploaded the updates via flash disc, but there are those who havent, how do you account for those or program a game on different memory settings for all these consoles, it is no different from MS and their hard disc fiasco, and yes i did post my opinion there
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/17

plus incoming has proveed what i was guessing, not all firmware updates are included, they may have to include this on every ps3 game out there, for it to see reality, if not, it isnt feasible, that is the bottom line
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/17

finally, i gave my opinion with my reservations as to why i thought that it would be hard to implement the said move, can anyone say that i was wrong in my reasoning, NO, the aim of a debate is to see both sides and exchange ideas, so sticky, i really wasnt foolish, keep trolling my posts, but next time have something concrete
Written by CianMCL on 2007/08/17

as i said i only want this feature in sports games. imagine putting on gta:vice city today and the opening track is umberella by rhianna...wudnt have the same impact as wacko jacko would it?

Written by sticky on 2007/08/17

ARTHUR. maybe if ur opinion wasnt poisoned with the FACT that you dont own a ps3 or a psp then you would possibly have a more objective attitude when it came to giving your "opinion" about things it wouldnt be so bad, but thats not the case! IS IT?

your opinion is the same as some kid whos mum and dad wont buy them a system so u just harp on about how ur system is better than everyone else. who fukin cares! get all the systems, play all the games, hack the easy ones and pay for the games you like. its that simple!
Written by arthur56k on 2007/08/18

i played most of the last generation on the ps2 because of a big library, played PSP, but im not into handhelds, will get then ps3 when the price drops, its the only thing holding me back, and its not being cheap, but there isnt a reason to get one yet, all the big games come out next year, have i answered you.

the ps3 will get games, i even expect it to win this generation, i have given my reasonms for that, and my reasons as to why i curently favour the 360, and it looks like you have been doing a lot of history on me, if you've done enuff, you would know that when i was younger i was a staunch ps fanbot, but i matured, and had i still been there, id be your buddy on this site, but get this, i favor the 360 at the current moment because pf the superior lineup, if and when i get the ps3, and it turns out to be better, i'll change my affiliation, i have made that clear, and that can only happen next year, not this year, so go troll somewhere else, you just got owned
Written by SLEVEN on 2007/08/31

ok so the xbox360 has music dont dis the ps3 when all of 360 time was spent playing games and downloading packs for games that are already installed in ps3 games ps3 was curing cancer making the worlds first driver less car and just because we cant play music while in a game dosent mean it wont happen ps3 is getting better everyday while the 360 collects dust and as being we had internet acess before you we dont pay to go online that gos for surfing the web and for others who cant download the firmware they can download it on usb or go to the local game store and pick it up but you dont know that since you dont have one so sad that you cant compete with us and by the way am using the ps3 right now§ KROGER BATTLE NERD by the way the 360 is all around circles go no where the REPEATE - HIDEO KOJIMA
