Carmack sat down with Tom's to discuss his new game Rage, as well as working with consoles. Surprisingly, Carmack the PC guy admitted that, at least for Rage, the PC is not as important as the consoles. The PC edition may even be three DVDs in order to match the PS3 quality, he said. Id will certainly port Rage and Doom 4 to the PC, Carmack said, but he admits that the numbers on PC are just not what they are for consoles, and they are steadily falling. PC fans don't fret, though, according to Carmack, Id will support PC for a while because "it's the right thing to do."

Sorry folks, the big evil cheese himself will not be killed off in this installment of Wolfenstein, either. Hitler will not be included in the new Id Wolfy game. According to lead artist Kevin Cloud, who said "No, he's not in our game," he said with a smile. "We've got to save something for future Wolfensteins. We can't do him in yet!" No, we suppose not.

Apparently, Id has had more than a few offers from publishers to produce a Quake-themed MMO game. Id has turned them all down, as Carmack himself related to Shacknews in an interview. He says Id is just not interested in developing an MMO, and in fact, underestimated what it is taking to produce their web-based Quake Live game.

ID Software announced today that production on Doom 4 has begun. The developer is also expanding its internal team to work on the game. To that end, iD is looking for talent to join the team. Great opportunity if you have what it takes.

"It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles."

There is a new game for the Xbox360 rated over at the ESRB. If you search for "Quake" at the linked search page, you will see the first result listed is Quake III: Team Arena. We can only assume that this title will be hitting the Xbox Live Arcade soon. Sounds encouraging! (Thanks, Kakarotto!)

In two separate speeches at the GDC this past week, representatives from both id Software and Epic said that they both decided to go multi-platform because of PC game piracy. They both admitted that most PC users who would spend $600 on a video card, would also know how to use bittorrent to download Unreal or Quake. That is why they both decided to look towards the consoles, even though they did not necessarily want to.
