FIFA Exclusivity Deal Official Info and New Hardware Details >
2006/08/23 13:11:33: Posted by Josh
As we told you, today Microsoft announced an exclusivity deal with EA to make FIFA 07' an XBOX 360 exclusive. Here are the official details. MS also finally got around to pricing some of the previously announced products (from E3) as well as giving us some dates too. The biggest suprise? Pretty much all of these hardware bundles are aimed at getting new 360 owners in the door while admittingly forcing early adopters to "re-buy" software, and in the case of the vision cameras, the headset. Admit it though, you've probably sat on yours by now anyways right? There's some other tidbits in there, like a couple of new games for Windows and the coveted Halo faceplate.

Note: The exclusivity deal is inked for 12-months of FIFA 07' only being on 360.
Microsoft Press Release:

"Microsoft’s game platforms show unstoppable momentum.

LEIPZIG, Germany — Aug. 23, 2006 — Once again proving that its game platforms offer more ways for gamers to have fun, Microsoft Corp. today announced great new games and accessories for Xbox 360™ and Windows® gamers. Delivering on the worldwide demand for Xbox 360, Xbox Live® and Games for Windows, Microsoft revealed key additions to its Windows Vista™ showcase library and Xbox 360 titles today at the 2007 Games Convention in Leipzig. In addition to announcing new European-centric board games for the hugely successful Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox Live, the premier online gaming service, Microsoft announced that the next generation of soccer will be available exclusively on the Xbox 360 console this year. With “FIFA 07” from Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) and “Pro Evolution Soccer 6” from Konami Digital Entertainment Inc., Xbox 360 will be the only place where gamers can enjoy next generation soccer this year.

Nearly doubling its physical presence at the Games Convention over last year, Microsoft is giving gamers the opportunity to see and play the newest titles for Windows, Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. More than 130 game stations and more than 40 titles are available for gamers to test at the Microsoft booth on the convention show floor.

Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade

Hot on the heels of an exciting 2006 FIFA World Cup™, EA announced that “FIFA 07,” featuring a revolutionary new game engine and online play, will be available on Xbox 360. Konami will also bring “Pro Evolution Soccer 6” to the console, making Xbox 360 the exclusive home to next-generation soccer this holiday season.

In addition, with more and more gamers enjoying the growing number of games on Xbox Live Arcade every day, Microsoft is giving gamers a splash of global influence with the forthcoming release of three board-game-inspired titles from Europe. “Settlers of Catan™,” “Carcassonne™” and “Alhambra™” are set to bring the classic board games to the high-definition screen on Xbox Live Arcade via Xbox Live Marketplace.

Games for Windows

Expanding one of the largest game libraries available for any gaming system, Microsoft and industry partners announced two additional family-friendly showcase titles for the new Windows operating system, Windows Vista. “LEGO® Star Wars II™: The Original Trilogy” from LucasArts and “Zoo Tycoon® 2: Marine Mania®” from Microsoft Game Studios will join the growing list of Windows Vista titles that will offer breakthrough features to push the boundaries of gamers’ expectations and set the bar for cutting-edge, next-generation gaming on the Windows Vista platform. Due to release in early 2007, Windows Vista will provide improved experiences for gamers — from the most casual gamers to the hard-core enthusiasts — through new features such as the Games Explorer, Microsoft® DirectX® 10 and Parental Controls.

“We promised gamers they would experience a renaissance of gaming goodness on the most popular Microsoft game platform,” said Rich Wickham, director of Games for Windows business at Microsoft. “Windows has always provided a fantastic experience for gamers, but Windows Vista and these new games really take advantage of the enhancements in Windows Vista and are just the start of our renewed commitment to Windows gamers.”

During its convention keynote address, Microsoft also showed a playable demonstration of the Windows Vista showcase title “Flight Simulator X” using the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller and the new Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. Convention attendees got a glimpse of the exciting new gaming experiences available in the latest iteration of Microsoft’s longest-running franchise for Windows operating systems and the next step in cross-platform game controls.

'exclusive for this year' ... so, they mean the 6 weeks between PS3 launch and December 31st?
Written by Kenny K on 2006/08/23

no it means this year's versions of the soccer/football titles will only be on the 360

as for the rebuying comment, only the headset is being repurchased but that is understandable to why would include it since not every 360 owner is garaunteed to have one
Written by Unknown (174) on 2006/08/23

They should've exclusive Winning Eleven, its a much better series, and still is, than that piece of shit Fifa

'it means this year's versions of the soccer/football titles will only be on the 360'

WRONG. Please do not say things that are untrue. Only this years version NEXT GENRATION titles, are only on 360.

This means its only NOT on the other NEXT gen consoles EXCEPT for 360. its still on ps2, psp, pc and the ds. The 360 version has ONLY better graphichs over the console versions. Ps3 owners have b/c. And konami have never relased pes on the first year of a next gen console INCLUDING the 360.

Also winning eleven is NOT included in this, which is the japanese version of pes. Read my comment on the actual article for more info.

*over the other.

unknown, winning 11 is exclsuvie dude, we = pro evo
Written by Jay360 (12) on 2006/08/23

Winning Eleven and pro evo is the same thing. The next Pro evo and fifa are both next gen exclusives to the 360. Neither of these games will be on the ps3 or wii for 12 months.
Written by - The G- on 2006/08/23

winning eleven and pro in terms of gameplay are the same, but they are not counted the same game.

winning eleven is NOT relased on xbox platforms. at all.
Written by LoL on 2006/08/23

So what even *if* winning eleven will be out for PS3 it will be only in Japan.

We will have to wait for official info from Konami about winning eleven.

I'm prety sure that it is also X360 exclusive - it would help X360 in Japan - wise choice from M$.
Written by blah on 2006/08/23

an exclusive for 12 months stating now? That means....FIFA 07 and Winning eleven are the only games that will be exclusive for 360 and the sequals possibly won't be exclusive. Now if they said the contract starts after these games, thats a different story. In other words, expect all next-gen consoles to have these games next year lol.
Written by cyrix_0 on 2006/08/23

This is Just Hilarious....hahaha

points finger at -> MS

Written by blah on 2006/08/23

Yeah MS just said 12 months to make it seem like its a big deal lol. But really its the samething as saying those 2 games are only exclusive for this year. MS using Sony tactics, sweeeet 8)
