No HDMI Cable Included with PS3 >
2006/09/01 10:43:34: Posted by Josh
In case you were wondering, according to Sony's official PS3 website, your holiday 1080p powerhouse won't be coming with an HDMI cable to hook up to your HDTV. This comes as no suprise, as consoles tend to come with only the most common connection for the market. That, and a decent HDMI cable should cost you less than $30 these days.

Labeled With  PS3 HDMI Sony

This Is Just To Funny ! They Are Always Talking About The HDMI And Don't Even Give The Stupid Cable...
Written by ninja502 (4) on 2006/09/01

for the price they could put in a darn cable

Written by x3mis on 2006/09/01

Just To Heart Even More The Sony n00bs (Fanboys), In The Latest Famitsu The Leading Japanese Publication They Predict That The PS3 Will Be Over Run By The Wii In Japan. So Wii In Japan, 360 In North America, Just Waiting To See The Europe Numbers.
Written by IVkm (32) on 2006/09/01

Funny how you turn predictions into facts.
Written by kidkit on 2006/09/01

Don't be such bastards. Including an HDMI cable would be an unreasonable additional cost to Sony. How many HDMI Dvd players come with a cable?
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (178) on 2006/09/01

Well the 360 doesnt come with one either ..oh wait, it doesnt even have a digital video card... so, stfu!
Written by x3mis on 2006/09/01

Lol I Knew That This Was Coming Lol Always Behind Sony... Will you Guys Wake Up Some Day ? I Was In The Past A Big Fan Of Sony Until I Was Tired Of Lies, So Why Can You Guys Not Do The Same ? Those Sony Pays You Guys To Protect Them ?

And Fruity Your Point Is ? The PS3 Is Better Because Of That ? Nice Point ! Thanks I Feel Smater !
Written by Dlacy13g (37) on 2006/09/01

The biggest issue here is it raised the cost of the PS3 if in-fact you plan to use the HDMI. At minimum that is now $630...and thats buying a cheap set of cables.

Sure you dont' need to use the HDMI..but then what would be the need for Blu Ray if you don't/can't use the HDMI? Hmmmmm.....
Written by x3mis on 2006/09/01

Nice Point Dlacy. The Last Time I Heard Blu Ray With Only Work With HDMI Right ? So They Want You To Own A Blue Ray But They Don't Give You The Cables To Use It ?

And IVkm You Are Telling That Famitsu Is Not A Trusted Source... I Really Don't Have Anything To Say About That It Is Just To Funny Lol !
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (178) on 2006/09/01

If you dont understand the importance of a digital video card in relation to the next gen. video formats, then readup on it before you start spewing fanbois crap. The idea here is future proofing, if you dont understand that then you should have stayed in skool.

wtf ??? are they trying to save money by cutting down the accessories ! wow sony knows how to do shit business ~!!!
Written by killallthewhitepeople (43) on 2006/09/01

sounds like another disgruntled fanboy to me. that really does suck though. Now i gotta spend at least another 30 dollars on top of the 600 to get the most of it the console. every day i consider waiting for a price drop more and more.
Written by kidkit on 2006/09/01

Jesus x3mis... the 'lockout' for Hi Def Content got bumped back to 2010 - 2012. Blu-Ray movies will look and play just fine over component. If you have a tv with an HDMI input you can probably afford a new cable. Maybe you should bitch too because there is no included ToSlink cable for digital sound? WHAT, THE GIVE YOU 5.1 SOUND BUT DONT GIVE YOU CABLE! THIS IS BULLSHIT
Written by VaeVictus on 2006/09/01

How many people have HDtv's at this point? If it comes w/ component cables big whoop. SO much has been made on this board about the 360 doing just fine graphically w/ component cables, what makes the PS3 any different? Plus, anyone who can afford an HDtv and a PS3 can easily foot the 15-30 dollars it would cost to buy a non monster (overpriced) HDMI cable. Plus, why would the ship the premiums w/ HDMI and the core's with components? That would be stupid. Mountain out of a molehill people, mountain out of a molehill. 360 fanboys have no reason to comment.

is true that the 60gb should have a hdmi cable , but i have to get real...

How many people have HD tvs that receive hdmi cable?

the sony stategy is letting this in the hands of the consumer , 2 years from now when hd tvs start maturating and becoming cheaper the cables will be too.

nixon , so sony do shit bussiness? so you call 10 years of gamming industry domminace ,shit bussiness?

Written by Nemesis IX (264) on 2006/09/01

nearly everyon i no got a hdtv after the 360 launch and i'm sure when the ps3 launches hdtv sales will go up so it is a bit of a bad idea not to include it in atleast the premium pack.
Written by MAKAVELI on 2006/09/01

SO FOR you a companie (microsoft) that as been lossing money per in per console since xbox was released is a good bussiness? AH?

For your information ms still lossing money with xbox360 and is they will eventually start profit in 2007.
Written by silverwolf on 2006/09/01

That's besides the point all console's loss money when launched! Same goes for the PS3.

AH NIXON?

"That's besides the point all console's loss money when launched! Same goes for the PS3. silverwolf

-------------------------------------

Im talking about a balance , ms didnt profit from xbox 1 and this is a fact , they will start profit wit x360 , but if you compare with sony they earn lots of money from psx and ps2 , so they had good cash to develop ps3 and still with a positive money balance.

p.s the good thing in developing the cell with ibm is that the costs are divided by the two.

Ever since HDTVs capable of receiving a 1080p signal have been in production, HDMI inputs have been included in their design. When you consider that Sony is charging such a HUGE amount of money for the $600 version, it should DEFINITELY have an HDMI cable included. The fact that Sony would allow gamers to spend up to another $100 OR MORE for an HDMI cable is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

Playstation 3 gets more disappointing each day.

If you choose to take advantage of the HDMI ability of the PS3, the system will have cost you over $700!!!
Written by VaeVictus on 2006/09/01

Mike, you are so blinded by your fanboyism it isn't even funny. Keep in mind that the $600.00 being spent on the system is worth every penny to those who chose to buy simply b/c of the technology the PS3 includes. It is at the least on par with the 360 in terms of it's gaming abilities. It is coming w/ blu-ray, and whether you like it or not, it is a new technology, and that is never cheap. In 1997, standalone DVD players were selling for $800.00. The PS3 will have all the bells and whistles the $400.00 360 had and more to boot. (60 gig HD, bluetooth, wireless included) IMO, these few features make the PS3's asking price reasonable. It is high, but considering what it has included, it's worth it's asking price. A 30 dollar HDMI cable is not going to make or break the system from a consumer standpoint, but could hurt the profitability of the system to a struggling Sony.
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (178) on 2006/09/01

For those of you with ZERO intention of ever getting a PS3 because you're soooooo freakini' happy with your 360, there is no reason for you to comment and spread more PS3 hate. Go hug a child or kitten.
Written by VaeVictus on 2006/09/01

Bottom line is, if it is too expensive in your opinion, don't buy it. Shut up about the price, b/c all of the arguments have been heard a million times over. Component cables will be enough for most people anyway.
Written by Nemesis IX (264) on 2006/09/01

most could afford it but most would still prefare the Wii from what they have seen(most as in class in college)

i got these mario kart radio controlled cars yesterday, got mario, yoshi and donky kong. only 15 E each as well, we where racing them around college today, good laugh

Fanboys are so funny...

Fact is the 360 equivalent to the PS3 (console + HD + hddvd) is basicly the same price as a premiun PS3.

If you can't afford a cable then wtf are doing wasting your money on next-gen consoles and games?

Just wait till the PS3 is even released before calling it "disapointing".

Just as VaeVictus said, I reconize that the price of the PS3 is right, it comes with all the latest technology and doesnt require any add-ons at all...

except for a 30$ cable oh noes!!! "one more nail in sonys coffinz!!1 lolz"

You do the math on what you have to pay to get an Xbox with HD and hd-dvd.
Written by DepheCt (265) on 2006/09/01

Do you not see the plan for this one guys?! They will make a PS3 hdmi cable that you have to buy on the side... "For use with sonys ps3" =/.
Written by Dlacy13g (37) on 2006/09/01

Ok, I get that if you get the premium PS3 you can probably afford a cable. My point is the Premium PS3 and the standard PS3 are now out of the box the same output wise. Your Extra $100 is getting you an HDMI port and an xtra 40GB's. To actually view with the HDMI you will need to pay an Extra $130 ($100 for the upgrade to premium and $30ish for HDMI cable)...and that is assuming you can use a standard HDMI cable with the PS3. It's a ticky tack add-on that should be in the premium.

Oh and on the argument that this box is future proof. If that were the case then this would be the last console Sony would ever need to make. Near future proof ..probably. But in 5 years the graphics and cell will being hard pressed as will any console to keep up with what "new" technology has emerged. Sony will be forced to come out with the PS4, and MS and Nintendo will as well and I for one welcome that.
Written by Smarty Pants (245) on 2006/09/01

Im thinking of the $500 version myself; using ethernet instead of wifi is no biggie (you can upgrade later and im not going to be online much), lack of card reader is no biggie (you can upgrade later and game saves are on HDD), smaller HDD is no biggie (you can upgrade later to any laptop drive), and 1080p via component will more than suffice. And, by the time they invoke the image constraint token, i will pick up a Chinese made, HDMI BD player from the grocery store for 50 bucks.

So, there, i just saved $130...or enough for 2 games or a night on the town.
Written by Spike (52) on 2006/09/02

Did anyone ever really thought the ps3 was coming with HDMI cables? As the news article said consoles always come with the most common connection to the market. The reasoning behind this is to avoid having consumers getting to their houses and being unable to play their console since they don't have a tv with HDMI at their homes. The percent of people without a HDTV with HDMI is way higher that the percent of people that possess HDTV and HDMI. The same thing applies with the audio f you want dolby digial you'll have to go and buy an optical cable.
Written by aic007 (39) on 2006/09/02

Well, if they don't include component cables then that would really be a kick in the ass to everyone. I love how people say " well if you add the price of the HD-DVD add on its the same price." I don't want an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, that extra money went to 4 games. AND if I choose to get one, it will be a stand alone which will be a better quality player. Do you think if these formats take off they will be 1000 by the end of next year? I'm sure you could get a great stand alone for a couple hundred bucks by next christmas, and by then you would know which format will prob win out.

For the 600 bucks yeah, the cable should be included. Didn't MS throw component cables in with the 400 360? To all the 360 fans, be patient and wait a few more months. When the PS3 is released and it has its share of problems, and it will considering Sony's track record with systems and all the manufacturing problems they have had the past few months everyone can have a nice collective laugh over the whole thing. ALl I know is that for 600 bucks in November I will be getting a Wii, about 3games for it and another 4 games for my 360, looks like a pretty good deal to me.
