but with rip-off uk and ireland thats £50 and 80 Euro. so its not too cheap for europe. i wonder will a lot of sony games use the same style as Gran Turismo HD,

EA is probally thinking of loads of ways to rip-off gamers.

Let's hope this isn't another Sony act of deception. Sony knows how to use and avoid using their websites, after all. Let's not forget that Sony doesn't mention any of the products recalled that used the 6 MILLION defective batteries. I will believe it when I see it, because the prices at many retailes have listed games at $69 and $79.

is this a confirmed price cos checked out other sites and the most are saying different prices than $60?

I highly doubt they'll get a company like EA to conform to those 59.99 prices especially when blu ray discs are so expensive unless... sony covering each and every blu ray disc.

59.99 for first party titles doesn't seem far fetched. But third party game on BR disk seems to me like they would be more expensive. Considering they dropped the price on the console (in Japan). This might be a sign that games might have to be higher to make up for the lost in hardware.

Blu Ray discs are only slightly more to produce than a DVD and HD DVD, but so far, prices of Blu Ray movies have been the exact same price (sometimes cheaper) of HD DVDs ($24.99-$29.99). Sony makes Blu Ray, so i'm sure they can afford to charge $59.99 for their titles, and even with liscensing fees, companies like EA and Activision can still charge $59.99 for their games. anything over that is them being greedy and excessive. technically, they could all charge $49.99, but they won't.

when a company is selling billions of dollars in software a year (Activision and EA both gross at least 1 billion dollars a year), the 15-20 million dollar cost of developing a single game (and come on, how drastic is the game engine changing between the Tony Hawks and Maddens between each iteration of the series?) isn't so much of a big deal.

smaller companies, sure, it may cost more, but then it'll just boil down to the quality of the game (after all, it's "gameplay over graphics" with you guys nowadays, right?), and in this next generation, the field is ripe for new and interesting ideas that could suddenly put a company on the map (prior to titles like Mercenaries, Battlefront, and Destroy All Humans, Pandemic studios was a profitable, but relatively unheard of developer). now, they're an industry heavy hitter.

all developers are only a hit away from making it to the big leagues (insert Rockstar also. the GTA series was a joke that had a niche following before GTA 3 came out and revolutionized the industry).

the second hurdle to overcome when you have that hit title is marketing. titles like Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts bombed horribly because the companies didn't put enough behind marketing, despite how stellar the games were.

look at the push Heavenly Sword and Resistence are getting virtually guaranteeing them high sales from the gate.

the start of a console's life cycle is always the best time to introduce new franchises (Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Zone of the Enders all started at the beginning of the PS2's life cycle), as people are aching for content, and they know the Final Fantasies and Metal Gears are at least a year or two away.

if Heavenly Sword and Resistence take off (like i'm sure they will), we can expect to see a Heavenly Sword 2 and Resistence 2 later on in the PS3's life cycle, as Ninja Theory and Insomniac will have established a profitable franchise.

that's real good for Insomniac, as their Ratchet and Clank series is making an appearance on the PS3, which are also guaranteed sellers when released.

Ninja Theory hasn't really had that big, big hit yet, but Heavenly Sword could turn them into the next Pandemic in terms of public perception. making whatever franchise they come out with next have more worth (i'm sure they have other things on the backburner after Heavenly Sword).

anyway, my point is that even though the cost of development for smaller developers is much more of a strain than it is for EA and Activision, they can still sell their titles for $49.99-$59.99 for the simple fact that Blu Ray discs aren't expensive, and the lower price will help the title penetrate homes easier, thus establishing a presence for the developer, especially if the title is a quality one (like Indigo Prophecy).

i cant afford games that are 70 bucks or higher. no matter how good it is!.. T_T

Sony will never charge more for its games than the 360 is. Its enough to ask consumers to pay more for questionable "advantages" of the console, but if 85-90 percent of games are shared between consoles (multiplatform) no one will buy a PS3 except for the diehard fans of a particular exclusive series. No one will drop 600 bucks on the unit then $10+ extra to play the same EA games - not in the US they won't.

And those exclusives arent' enough to keep people loyal either...not that I think this will ever happen, but if Sony doens't get enough units into people's gamerooms, I can promise you that MGS4 and DMC4 will get ported to 360 so the developers can turn a profit on em...

In your dreams... consider how the directors behind it were so into their original work

We all know the games will be 59.99...btw HD-DVD/DVD hybrid i seen go high as 39.99!

apparently Superman Returns on HD DVD/DVD combo is $38.95, and Superman Returns on Blu Ray is $34.95.

the regular, single disc DVD edition of the movie is $28.95. according to ign.

I dont mean to change the subject, but has anyone noticed a decline in the quality of DVD's lately? I just cant help but notice the transfers are getting worse. If you have a screen larger than 50" you will be able to see the flaws more noticeably.

I may be paranoid, but I suspect it is a ploy to push the consumer to HD formats. By the time the consumer switches to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray it will be that much better just because the SD-DVD releases are getting sloppy.

The reason I chose this PS3 post is because Sony has most of the studios in their back pocket for Blu-Ray.
