Bungie & Microsoft No Longer Together? >
2007/10/01 16:16:44: Posted by DM
According to this website, there is a Bungie/Microsoft split coming in the next few days. Of course, this is too big of a rumor to confirm from just one unknown site, but according to the info MS gets to keep the Halo name, but Bungie is going to part ways. Apparently MS wants Bungie to make Halo only for the rest of their days, and Bungie, apparently, does not! Rumor mill, as I said, but we will see come 10/6!

Red herring.

Written by madgunde on 2007/10/01

I'm not sure how this could happen, given that Microsoft owns Bungie, unless there was an opt-out clause in the sale agreement.

I hope this does happen, simply because I think Bungie could do a lot more great stuff if they didn't have to answer to Microsoft. Bungie started life as a Mac games developer, and Halo was originally going to be a Mac game first. The day Microsoft bought Bungie was a sad day for Mac gaming. If Bungie was no longer owned by Microsoft, we might see them making games for the Mac again, along with maybe the PS3, and PC gamers wouldn't have to wait a year for the Windows port of their games.

I'm not holding my breath for this to happen, but one can dream, can't he?

Interesting. And I agree, Bungie need to know that there is life after Halo.
Written by sticky on 2007/10/01

dont worry guys, m$ have Rare to make great games.. hahahah what a fucking joke.
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/10/01

Or maybe they'll buy Epic Games :P

sticky,

Perfect Dark Zero, developed by Rare for the Xbox 360 has won more awards than any game developed by Sony for Playstation 3.

Viva Piniata, developed by Rare for Xbox 360 has won more awards than any game developed by Sony for Playstation 3.

Nuff said.

FROM A BUSINESS POINT OF VIEW

Microsoft of 100% correct to have a goal of keeping the team together (Bungie) with a goal of making Halo games, since the Halo game series is the most profitable game series in the last decade!

However, I do understand the point of view of Bungie; they are developers who might want to work on other games with other story lines.

I think a SUPER INTELLIGENT BUSINESS MOVE would be to keep Bungie as a second-party developer, but allow them to make games with different story lines. Maybe there could be a game set in the Halo universe, and even with the Halo name in it...like "Master Chief: Halo" or something like that.

I think it would be STUPID...maybe the dumbest decision ever made, to let go of Bungie because of a minor argument like this.
Written by incoming00 on 2007/10/01

regardless if MS keeps bungie or not, if they really want to make different games other then Halo, they could always leave the company and start new. then MS can buy that company too =P
Written by sticky on 2007/10/01

a SUPER INTELLIGENT MOVE for krogan would be for him to shut his biased gay mouth and realise the perfect dark is the biggest fucking joke of a game ever released. When is the last time you played either pdz or viva? u fucking twat.

YOUR RIGHT: but keep in mind dont make it worse otherwise it'll be like RARE, those stompede broters are now gone after 25 employee left when they were bought off, rare now became one of the good developers where they used to be special !!!

now its all gone including those two brothers who used to own it.

if i were microsoft kind of follow bungie otherwise it'll be the next rare !

and Halo was originally going to be a Mac game first.

AS TO THAT:

first of all not mac game it was exclusive to ps2, i dont know where u got that news from !

no one makes games for mac, unless if its a big seller which they never released it !

@blacktiger

Sorry, but you know squat about Halo and Bungie's history. From Wikipedia:

"On July 21, 1999, during the Macworld Conference & Expo, Steve Jobs announced that Halo would be released for Mac OS and Windows simultaneously.[54] Before this public announcement, game industry journalists under a non-disclosure agreement had previewed the game in a private showing during E3 1999,[55] and were reportedly amazed.[54][55] Bungie Studios later stated an even earlier development build of the game centered on real-time strategy and was "basically Myth in a sci-fi universe."[56]"

Halo was basically inspired by the Marathon games which started life as Mac exclusives. There are plenty of tributes to Marathon in Halo: Combat Evolved. The UESC Marathon logo appears in many places thoughout the game and can even be found in the Halo: Combat Evolved logo between the A and L: hxxp://nikon.bungie.org/images/halo_small.jpg

Before being bought by Microsoft, Bungie was the top game developer for the Mac, having released 3 Marathon games (two of which made it to Windows), the Myth series, Abuse, Oni, Pathways into Darkness and their first game: Minotaur, on the Mac. Halo was going to be a simultaneous Mac/Windows release before Microsoft bought Bungie and made it an XBox timed exclusive. It did eventually make it's way to the Mac, but Halo 2 never made an appearance for Mac.

Response to madgunde:

Wikipedia is NOT allowed to be used by students in college, because the information on Wikipedia is NOT reliable; it changes and is modified all the time.

Remember, Sony tried posting lies about other games on Wikipedia. Those lies were found, and thankfully they were removed. Nevertheless, that just goes to show what an unreliable source of information Wikipedia often is.

Response to sticky:

You are the pathetic one, because you are not mature. You are very immature, and you don't care about other people. The fact that you use foul language in such a careless way proves that you are selfish--you don't like it that the Playstation 3 is such a disappointment. You know that the PS3 has sunk to new lows, and since you are a blind lemming you have gone down with the PS3...and you are trying to drag others with you.

Well, the Xbox 360 and the Wii are great game systems with awesome games! Xbox 360 and Wii are the two top selling systems for a reason: High-Quality Games!!!
Written by sticky on 2007/10/04

thanks for the great words dr phil. i dont know of any high quality games for the wii... and my beef with the 360 aint the quality of the games, its the quality of the hardware. The hardware is hands down the most unreliable piece of shit games console EVER produced. there just simply has never been another game console produced that breaks so much. im a gamer, i love games, i own all game consoles and i do not accept a game console that breaks on me every 2 months.
