It's no surprise that Microsoft and Major Nelson want to brag a little bit about their newest mega hit title. Halo 3 has churned out an impressive $300 million dollars in sales in the last week, had an astonishing 2.7 million users login to Xbox Live with it, and has broken nearly every Xbox Live gameplay record since its release.
PRESS RELEASE

Global Entertainment Phenomenon “Halo 3” Records More Than $300 Million in First-Week Sales Worldwide

Xbox 360 console sales more than doubled; nearly 3 million gamers play online via Xbox LIVE.

REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 4, 2007 — Interactive entertainment will never be the same, with the launch of one title that has changed the way the world thinks about video games. “Halo® 3” has captured the attention of consumers worldwide and has made history as one of the biggest entertainment launches of all time.

Microsoft Corp. today announced that “Halo 3” has officially become a global phenomenon, garnering more than $300 million in sales in the first week alone. The critically acclaimed Xbox 360® exclusive, which was released worldwide on Tuesday, Sept. 25, is the fastest-selling video game ever and already one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.

Initial reports from retailers worldwide show console sales have more than doubled compared with the weekly average before the launch of “Halo 3.” With games such as “Halo 3,” “Madden 08” (EA Sports), “Mass Effect” (Microsoft Game Studios) and “Rock Band” (Harmonix), Xbox 360 has the greatest lineup in the history of video games and is the only console where consumers can play all the year’s biggest blockbusters.

“‘Halo’ is truly a cultural phenomenon, and the launch of ‘Halo 3’ is an important milestone for Xbox 360 and for video games as entertainment and as an art form,” said Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft. “‘Halo 3’ embodies our vision for the future of entertainment, where some of the world’s greatest creative minds will deliver a new generation of interactive storytelling.”

“Halo 3” is quickly staking its place as the most popular Xbox LIVE® game in history with members gathering in record numbers to play on the world’s largest online gaming and entertainment network on TV. More than 2.7 million gamers have played “Halo 3” on Xbox LIVE in the first week, representing nearly one-third of the 7 million Xbox LIVE members worldwide. Within the first day of its launch, “Halo 3” players worldwide racked up more than 3.6 million hours of online gameplay, which increased more than elevenfold to 40 million hours by the end of the first week, representing more than 4,500 years of continuous gameplay. Since “Halo 3 launched,” gamers have unlocked nearly 30 million achievements. In its first week alone, “Halo 3” drove a record number of Xbox LIVE Gold Memberships as hundreds of thousands of new members gathered online with friends, family members and other gamers around the world to collectively compete and complete the game.

“Halo 3” is the conclusion to the epic trilogy and picks up where “Halo 2” left off, answering questions about the fates of the beloved protagonist Master Chief™ and his artificial intelligence sidekick Cortana as they struggle to save humankind from destruction at the hands of the alien coalition known as the Covenant. In addition to the rich storyline, “Halo 3” continues the franchise’s grand tradition of delivering innovative online multiplayer experiences via Xbox LIVE. The game’s online multiplayer and innovative four-player cooperative gameplay for Xbox LIVE Gold users, the much-talked-about Saved Films feature that enables players to capture and save their favorite moments on their hard drives, and Forge, an innovative map editor that enables myriad customization options, are just some of the new features gamers are experiencing.

Developed by Bungie Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios, the “Halo” franchise is exclusive to the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system and optimized for the Xbox LIVE online entertainment network. “Halo 3” was released in 37 countries and 17 languages. To date, more than 20 million copies of the games in the “Halo” trilogy have been sold worldwide.

Record week-one sales come on the heels of the previously announced $170 million in sales in the U.S. within the first 24 hours of the game’s release, which marked not just the biggest video game launch, but the biggest entertainment launch in history. The Xbox 360 title beat previous U.S. sales records set by blockbuster openings for entertainment events such as the release of “Spider-Man 3” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” In addition, more than 1.7 million copies of “Halo 3” were pre-ordered in the United States, making it the fastest pre-selling game in history, surpassing the previous record-setting pre-sales of “Halo 2.”

it has broken records and 360 consoles. Well done m$ can you now shift your focus on fixing the 360 so that it doesnt break on everyone after a few days of playing? also stopping houses bursting into flames with your steering wheels and games being scratched on purchase would be great.
Written by blacktiger on 2007/10/04

ahhha i wana laugh at this one, they lost Rare value, now Bungie...

LOL

Response to both sticky and blacktiger:

Xbox 360 owners are the ones who are laughing and enjoying themselves while playing great new games like Halo 3 and Bioshock.

sticky, you should know that I have had TWO Playstation 3 systems break on me...One was the original Playstation 3 system, and the other was the refurbished system that Sony sent to me instead...BOTH Playstation 3 systems broke, and I am now on my 3rd PS3 system!

blacktiger, I wanna offer compassion towards you...because you desperately need it, since the Playstation 3 has experienced disappointment after disappointment.

And I really am sorry that Sony is stupid enough to want to purchase the developers of games like Lair...that Playstation 3 game was rated only 4.5 out of 10 by Gamespot, 5 out of 10 from PSM, and 4.9 out of 10 from IGN...in other words, Lair is PATHETIC!!!

Well, I'm going to go play John Madden NFL Football 2008 on the Xbox 360, at "a silk smooth 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution," while the controller Rumbles in my hand right now when I get hit...all while I use the Headset included with the system to talk with the person I am playing online with, WHILE I AM PLAYING!!!

You two can go an play the vastly inferior Playstation 3 version, which as Gamespot says, "Struggles to run at 30 frames per second at 720p" and does NOT Rumble, and does NOT let you talk online while you are playing the game.

I wouldn't have changed the subject like this, but I felt I needed to level the playing field...planting nasty seeds cause a nasty harvest to be produced...so if you don't want nasty Playstation 3 comments like this to be made, then I suggest you stop the nonsense.

The FACT is that Halo 3 is the FUNNEST game of all-time...even in Japan it is acknowledged as the "Best First Person Shooter available." And Microsoft deserves to be making all this money, because they have provided such an excellent game to owners of the Xbox 360 product.

krogan, you have resorted to lying about ps3s breaking on u now, everyone knows u dont own a ps3 let alone being the only person in the world who has had 2 break on them. </br></br>halo3 might be fun to u but not to me. bioshock WAS a good game until i finished it. ill never play it again.. the thing about the games world is it keeps going. rarely do i play the same game over and over. the only game ive been doing that with recently is heavely sword which is an amazing game.

Response to sticky:

I have played Heavenly Sword...I rented it, and just like all the reviews say, I beat it in less than 6 hours.

I thought Heavenly Sword has nice "Cut-Scene" Non-Playable graphics...but the "In-Game" Playable graphics weren't anything special...and I was using an HDMI cable on a 1080p HDTV set. And just so you know, most people are saying the same thing about Metal Gear Solid 4--Nice "Cut Scene" Non-Playable graphics, but the "In-Game" Playable stuff isn't impressive.

@Sticky (IF) you do not get banned or Suspended for violating terms of GR. I will have the right to say that I was discriminated against. on this by one of the Adminstrator

B1ueBurneR, you are 100% correct...I wish that DM would stop sitting on his laurels and start enforcing the Terms of Service for this website.

sticky,

The fact that there is no block button in Heavenly Sword is a BIG disappointment. It truly does make it so that game is a hack-n-slash sort of game...a button masher without strategy.

So, I agree with the Reviews that Heavenly Sword is not anything special; that's why it received review scores as low as 6 out of 10.

By the way, sticky, I have DEFINITELY had TWO Playstation 3 systems break! BOTH of those systems were DEFECTIVE!!! I am on my THIRD Playstation 3 system.

In fact, I have two friends who are on their SECOND Playstation 3 system, and they bought their systems at different points in time than I did, so it was not a "bad batch" or anything like that. Playstation 3 definitely has production problems.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2007/10/04

sticky : Sticky I played the game. I think it needs a block button. I rented the game becuase its not worth $60.00 for a game that I wont play over and over again. When a 7 year old can beat a demo of that game just by button mashing, it shows the game has no depth. It is a gorgeous looking game. But just like with women, if all it has is looks, you get tired of it really quick and move onto something else. Now Warhawk is another thing altogether. That game was fun when I owned it. I will give you that. Also thats BS calling B1ueBurner the *N* word. I got into a fight 3 months ago because somebody called my former roommate and good friend the *N* word. Chill out...
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/10/04

Off topic, but Famitsu, the most prestigious gaming magazine in Japan gave LAIR a 33/40 score, the same as what PGR4 got. So either LAIR is indeed a great game and it all comes to taste, or PGR4 is a shitty game. You decide Krogan.
Written by B1ueBurneR on 2007/10/04

@Sticky no, not you did not discriminate against me, I was refering to the site Adminstrator.. one in particular. I was suspended because some one called me a fag. but I didn't call that person anything .... and got suspended.. so if you keep it up.. you or KROGan might guest suspended. If its the same Admins that suspended me then Krogan suspended.. he's the being called the name.

sorry for the typo, I'm at work.. typing fast with one eye over my shoulder.

Guys like me use personal insults to get a rise out of people, its in good fun, and I am man enough to apologize when I cross the line. You actually believe in what you tell people on this forum. Yes I do have a problem with people who are "truly" racist. I am proud to be half caucasian, half filipino.

Hope your proud of being a "real" racist...
Written by B1ueBurneR on 2007/10/04

Racism is not inherited, it's thought. Maybe it's your upbringing... Sticky.. I'm so sorry that you fell for the Blu-ray Player 3 hype and its not living up to its expectation. Since it's launched you (Blu-ray player 3 Fanboys) have been eating sh!t on every gaming site and maybe calling people names is the only you can get ur frustration out. The Funny thing is your doing it behind a mouse and keyboard and we all know you'll never do it to anyone with a backbone in the real world.

Halo 3 made more money than any PS3 games plus accessories to date . hahha hahahaha.

There a Auto Block in HeavenlY Sword, Surely if you have played it you would know...

Each Stance has a Colour variant, to block an attack, select the stance as corresponding to the colour of attack. So you can block with the appropriate selection of stance.

This is being criticised heavely for being Short, wait a minute didnt it take me 9 hours to finish BioShock and that was another FPS with a new Kick to it.

Heavenly Sword is a Big over-haul from God of War, with a Mix-Blend of all that great into a Fantastic GAming experience that you'll only experience one in a while...I think the game has greater depth that it get credited for. I mean the moves and the combination of attacks that Rival your best Fighting or Wrestling game.

B1ueBurneR: That was a seriously good post.

Sticky: Painting your hand different colors and making happy hand time with yourself does not count as having sex with women of different ethics. You have already established a reputation on this site for being a "true" "RACIST". Dont kiss up to people on this site. The moment you thought B1ue was calling you out you turned on him immediately by attacking his race. Like I told another member the other day, I could care less if you like me or not. This isnt a popularity contest. Besides I have the love of my family. Nuff said.

If you finished it in 6 hours,I doubt it, unless you play easy mode or you have played the game several times and know the short cuts then you can clock it in that.

I call shanangans by alot of the people on this site...this infestation by this morbid creatures of Krogan WHO I have noticed many forms and likes on various other forums and gaming websites at all different times with the exact same context method of explanation and arguing. Makes me believe that there a many Krograns and alias but different people...but with the same agenda.

btw...if you have played Lair you would know thats its not that terrible as the reviews. The reviews are the opinions of a "Individual" and of course may not be the same as yours as you can see on various Gaming websites PS3 Games USER sCORES ARE much higher than the Actual Reviews, I have noticed a pretense of double standards when it comes to consider a good game for a $400 vs $600 machine. Where one has greater expectation than the other, which I feel is rather unfavourable to give a unbiased view.

Best Review = ME
Written by incoming00 on 2007/10/04

it took me and my bro little over 6 hours to be halo 3 on legendary. factor in all the times we lost, the game is actually shorter then Heavenly Sword =P
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/10/04

Lair is a TERRIBLE game, just like all the reviews say.

When I first saw Lair reviewed, it was by EGM with a score of 5.5 out of 10.

I thought it couldn't get any worse for Lair, until I saw a score of 5 out of 10 from PSM magazine.

I thought it couldn't get any worse for Lair, until I saw a score of 4.9 out of 10 from IGN.

I thought it couldn't get any worse for Lair, until I saw a score of only 4.5 out of 10 from Gamespot.

OBVIOUSLY, the reliable sources all agree that Lair is a very poor game!!!

If anyone rated Lair higher, it is because they fell into the trap that IGN and Next-Gen talked about where Sony was LITERALLY BEGGING for mercy in the Review process, because Sony created a 21-page Review guide that basically tried to put restrictions on the Reviewers...

Thankfully, the overwhelming majority of reviewers did not fall for Sony's stupid and selfish trick.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2007/10/04

cyrix_0: I did play Heavenly Sword. The only reason I want a block button is because you have to stop pressing buttons to block. I am a button masher just like my son :p I'm sorry but if the game doesnt challenge my 7 year old to the point he said these exact words "Daddy can I play the boy Ninja game" after he beat the demo in his first try without dying the game doesnt have much to offer. I wouldnt really know how long it was. I rented the game from BlockBuster and quite frankly got bored about 30 minutes in. Now the "boy" Ninja game my son was referring to in Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Now thats a fantastic game for the PS3. I dont buy very many games for my consoles, unless they have serious replay value. Heavenly Sword had great graphics, but just isnt worth a purchase to me...

I rented Lair. I either suck with 6-Axis, or 6-axis sucks. Either way Motion control sucked for me in both Motorstorm and Warhawk so Lair was just as frustrating. So I'm done with 6-axis. I'm sorry but I'm just not into motion controls, I tried the Wii Sports, it was fun, then got stale all in the time span of exactly 1 hour. I would gladly give it another chance if it had Analog Controls instead.

oh yeah and its such a shame the best selling game ever is not good enough to be in my top 50 best games ever.

and Sticky i'd like to Punch you in the face you racist scumbag.
Written by B1ueBurneR on 2007/10/04

@incoming00 how long does it take you to beat the Multiplayer part.? have you tried playing it with 4 peole, if you have.. 1 out of 10 how will score the fun factor of the multiplayer and co-op? What other game would you rather play that come close to halo 3?

@PimpD, Racism doesn't bother me, especially internet racisim.. I never met anyone who has the balls to come up to me in real life with their racism issue, well except police.
Written by daveydz3 on 2007/10/04

well i guess they took care of it, since it doesn't show up anymore. Racism is a terrible thing which actually makes halo 3 fun because at the start of a matchmaking game you can't hear anything
Written by PimpDaddy on 2007/10/04

B1ueBurneR: I hear ya. But it bothers me. I have torn ligaments in my elbow for defending Terrence against racism. You know what though as much rehab and pain as I have experienced and still experience today for that night, I would do it again in a heartbeat. There is no place in this world for that crap.

incoming00: You must be a FPS GOD if you beat the Legendary mode in 6 hours. Because myself and 2 other people played Heroic and didnt even complete the first 3 levels in the 3 hours we played.
Written by QuestimElite on 2007/10/04

All this money they made for this game and LIVE still aint free, I only paid $7.89 for Halo3 anyways, lol!

Written by incoming00 on 2007/10/05

hey, sorry i didnt get back to you guys sooner. was playing halo 3 online with some friends all night last night. anywho...

@B1ueBurner - online co-op is hands down a 10! its the most fun i've had since online co-op gears of war. it was a bit harder and more uncoordinated when i played it with 3 other people, but that could just be the players, hahaha. i think multiplayer has been tweaked enough to where its replayable. i used to get bored playing Halo 2, but in Halo 3, a lot more types of matchs and weapons and even deathmatch is more fun. i give it a solid 8 only because its still the same Halo 2 mutliplayer, but with added bonuses. and honestly, i cant think of any other game i'd loved to play instead of Halo 3, cuz those games i'm thinking about arent out yet lol
Written by B1ueBurneR on 2007/10/05

@Incoming, I think 8 its a little be low.. being that you can still enjoy the campaing.. with 4 people. thats what its comes down too. I could understand the multiplayer part its so many options now.. and its even more fun.. I like playing Multi -team 4 teams of 2. I like Lone wolf. the bubble shields come in handy on Lone Wolf alot.
Written by incoming00 on 2007/10/05

@B1ueBurner i gave the online versus an 8 because its still pretty much the same thing as in Halo 2 except with more options, weapons and maps. i gave the campaign, both single and co-op, a 10 because of the story and i loved how it felt more like a warzone this time around then a lone super human warrior taking everyone out. combined, its like giving it a 9/10 for me =)
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/10/07

Bungie says that the Difficulty Level that they consider "Appropriate" and "Optimal" for Halo 3, so that gamers have the highest level of fun, which will last significantly longer, is the Heroic setting.

When the difficult is put on Heroic, it adds new enemies to fight, and the enemies become a LOT smarter. The enemies take longer to beat because of their improved Artificial Intelligence.

When Halo 3 is played on Heroic difficulty, with four-player Co-Op, I can instantly say it is the funnest game I have ever played, and I rate it a 10 out of 10, just like all of those professional reviews!
Written by incoming00 on 2007/10/08

i wonder if Bungie gave reviewers a 21 page guide on rating the game on the "Heroic" setting ;)

and hold your horses urdnot. halo 3 didnt get a perfect 10 from every reviewer. just look at some of these scores, one as low as a 7/10 *gasp*

hxxp://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages4/926632.asp

all in all, i agree that halo 3 was a good game, not the greatest i've ever played(thats held by Shenmue), but definately a good game
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2007/10/12

I loved Shenmue on the Dreamcast, and I also love Shenmue 2 on the original Xbox. I am hoping that Sega will release Shenmue 3 for the Xbox 360.

Halo 3 is by far the greatest Halo game I have ever played, and I really do think it is my favorite game of all time.

Being able to play Co-Op Halo 3 story mode with four players is absolutely incredible!!!

Halo 3 is one of the highest rated games of all time, because it truly is incredible!
